T etra Tech is currently seeking a part-time, mid-level, Environmental Scientist for our Fort Collins, CO office.

Response, assessment, and evaluation services (RAES) are parts of a larger program associated with abandoned mines. You will support the program in the following areas :

  • Evaluate the impacts of abandoned mines on human health and the environment.
  • Work to identify and implement measures to resolve contamination in the environment.
  • Learn and implement complex radiological monitoring techniques and site characterization studies.
  • Oversight of drilling programs for installation of monitoring wells
  • Sample soil in residential yards using an incremental sampling methodology
  • Conduct gamma radiation surveys
  • Analyze soil samples with X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) technology
  • Data analysis, including graphical and visual analysis and statistical analysis, probabilistic analysis of environmental systems

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have 6 - 11 years relevant experience. You will also have experience with / be :

  • Southwestern United States, mining and mine reclamation, uranium mining and mills, interaction with regulatory agencies, tribal lands, CERCLA sites.
  • Abandoned uranium mine site characterization including field work and data analysis, field sampling plan writing.
  • Strong science backgrounds
  • Excellent communication skills

Degree / Certifications

  • MS in geology from an accredited college or university.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training is a plus.
  • 30-hour OSHA construction safety training is a plus.

Work Environment

This position requires roughly 25 -35% travel. The field work is anticipated to be in remote areas of Arizona and New Mexico. You must be able to :

  • Work outdoor during all seasons, both hot and cold, in all weather conditions.
  • Walk on various terrains.
  • Lift and carry field equipment (35 to 40 pounds)
  • Don personal protective gear as needed.
  • Make excavations using hand tools.
  • Drive on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.
  • Travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.

The Salary Range for this position is $70,000 - $100,000, depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
