Summary

As a Director of Philanthropy Marketing and Engagement , you will be a key member of the Office of Communications and Brand Strategy (OOC) in partnership with the Office of Institutional Advancement (OIA) and Alumni Relations who collaborates with colleagues at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and Froedtert Hospital to direct the philanthropy marketing and engagement strategies to drive and support the overall philanthropy strategic plan.

The Director leads the development and implementation of philanthropic marketing, branding, and promotional efforts to enhance the image and reputation to drive donor engagement and philanthropic revenue.

Tasks include but are not limited to project management of marketing initiatives, production, cause marketing and special initiative support.

The Director maintains close and collaborative working relationships with MCW and hospital philanthropy leadership and frontline fundraisers, department administrators, board members, donors, MCW OOC, and key vendor partners in support of philanthropic objectives.

Description

Responsibilities :

  • Develop effective, integrated philanthropy marketing and engagement multi-year strategies and plans in collaboration with and under the direction of the MCW Vice President of Marketing Communications.
  • Oversees the development of editorial calendars for philanthropy channels to ensure consistency and best practices for donor communications.
  • Collaborates to ensure consistent philanthropic messaging, branding and themes throughout channels that highlight philanthropic and donor storytelling.
  • Responsible for marketing analysis, performance reporting and identifying philanthropic marketing engagement opportunities with our brand.
  • Create and disseminate consistent and on brand philanthropic marketing materials based on brand positioning, defined organizational objectives, and a deep understanding of the stakeholders, messages / channels and vehicles.
  • Support the development, design, and production of collateral, online and offline multimedia that reflect consistent branding standards and drive philanthropic revenue.
  • Support the marketing strategy for all MCW and affiliate hospital campaign marketing and fundraising materials, serving as an expert and partner on social media, email, and web initiatives, as well as branding, design, and advertising.
  • Partner with donor relations, events, and communications teams to develop creative donor marketing plans and materials to support fundraising objectives.

Implement metrics and tracking to assess ROI and program refinement to meet clearly articulated goals.

  • Support cause marketing efforts and digital fundraising programs.
  • Uphold brand standards and guidelines and provide project management for creative design and production of materials to support the marketing plans, frontline fundraisers and philanthropic goals.

Serve as a decision-maker on logo usage / policy / trademarks for key fundraising initiatives and programs, as well as navigating requests from leaders and partners.

  • Conduct industry benchmarking to ensure competitive differentiation and best-in-class marketing programs.
  • Lead the creation of annual strategic marketing goals and strategies to strengthen fundraising potential.
  • Oversee the creation of distinctive marketing plans and materials that highlight our brand among our donor community and the public locally and nationally.
  • Develop philanthropy digital engagement and digital marketing strategy in partnership with the MCW Directors of Marketing communications and Engagement.
  • Identify data driven opportunities to grow donor activation and engagement through compelling philanthropy marketing and communication.
  • Identify effective donor and alumni engagement marketing principles and channel optimization strategies to drive alumni and donor gifts.
  • Partner with OIA and OOC team members to develop content strategy directed at philanthropic benefactors for optimal channel impact including solicitations, gift reporting and special projects.
  • Secure approvals and ensure waivers and documentation for use of imagery, quotes, and other content aligns with legal and compliance standards.
  • Track and maintain all documentation in a standardized system.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership and management capacity; effective in working with a variety of audiences (including highest level of MCW, partners and constituencies);

excellence in customer service.

  • Digital philanthropic marketing fluency and multi-channel platform understanding of data and national best practices to engage and speak to a diverse group of constituents and supporters.
  • Demonstrated ability in leveraging multi-channel marketing approaches to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of donor and alumni engagement techniques and systems including CRM, CMS, SEO, software.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience both orally and in writing.
  • Attendance at some events required.

Minimum Qualifications :

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

Minimum education :

Bachelor’s Degree

Minimum experience :

10 plus years in marketing communications with expertise in philanthropy field, with a preference for experience in the higher education or healthcare sectors.

Preferred education :

Master’s or other advanced degree

Preferred experience :

  • Comprehensive skills in marketing communications (preferably in an academic medical center environment) and experience or familiarity with development / fundraising strategy.
  • Relevant experience in philanthropy marketing communications, stewardship, and philanthropy engagement programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of fundraising principles, ethics, and marketing and communications best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in donor reporting and proposal management, annual giving programs, digital marketing platforms and outreach, recognition, and donor relations.
  • Five plus years of experience managing / supervising a team.
