Position Information
Adjunct faculty are needed to teach undergraduate laboratories in Biochemistry and Chemistry at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for the Spring Semester, .
Classes will be held from 2 / 3 / 20 to 5 / 8 / 20. Additional work responsibilities will require attention 1 / 27-31 and 5 / 9-5 / 18.
Opportunities may be available in subsequent semesters.
Responsibilities
Typical duties of adjunct instructors include but aren’t limited to :
- Become knowledgeable about the course learning objectives and content.
- Teach undergraduate students in general education and / or major course laboratories.
- Manage the class syllabus and ensure that content and delivery meet department and college standards.
- Ensure safety, deliver instruction, and supervise lab activities to develop student laboratory skills and critical thinking.
- Grade assigned activities, quizzes, laboratory reports and / or exams.
- Assign grades for students based on participation, performance in class, assignments, and examinations.
- Report student learning accomplishments on all outcomes through class reviews, and analysis of student data.
- Collaborate with colleagues on course curriculum and pedagogy.
- Advise students on how to be successful in class.
- Manage a diverse classroom / laboratory environment to support student learning.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Adjuncts teach laboratory courses in a face-to-face setting using the learning management system (LMS) Blackboard. Laboratory sections meet 3 hours one day per week.
Multiple sections are generally assigned.
Classification 25- Education, Training, and Library Occupations Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in the appropriate scientific discipline, or a closely related one.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD and / or previous teaching experience a plus.

Ability to teach, work in a diverse setting, and excellent communication skills.
