Sr Accounting Specialist

Summary

Performs specialized accounting functions and recommends / implements solutions to accounting problems. Coordinates the preparation of data, computer input, account control, adjustments, corrections, and the reporting of financial data.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs accounting services with primary support in Disbursements (Accounts Payable, Payroll).
• Prepares journal entries and reconciles account balances with appropriate records.
• Conducts special investigations and compiles accounting data for specific activities.
• Coordinates or performs the accumulation, analysis and distribution of accounting data.
• Coordinates accounting methods and recommends / implements improvement in departmental procedures.
• Performs liaison activities with accounting management, internal and external customers.
• Investigates problems and implements corrective action.
• Reviews and analyzes accounting data for compliance with policies, procedures, laws, regulations and DOE orders.
• Assists in training personnel in various accounting routines and procedures.
• Analyzes financial system output and initiates corrections as required.
• Performs, reviews, and analyzes a variety of financial-related calculations.
• May perform other duties as required.
• Conducts activities in a safe and healthy manner and works in accordance with established HS&E requirements to ensure the protection of employees, the public, and the environment.
• Takes actions necessary to "stop" work when an unsafe condition or action is identified.

You Must Have

High School diploma and 5 years of relevant experience.

• Ability to travel up to 5% of the time.
• Ability to work remote, hybrid, or on-site as directed by management and is determined by the needs of the business
• United States Citizenship.
• Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job.
• Ability to obtain and maintain, if required for position, a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance.

We Value

Associates degree in accounting.

• Knowledge of general accounting or payroll methods and practices normally acquired through a degree in accounting or equivalent formal education and experience.
• Proficiency in in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to quickly analyze complex financial information and initiate / recommend appropriate actions.
