This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy.

UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Event Coordinator position requires knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, and information systems in order to communicate and process information and organize events.

The range of duties centers on three main areas : event management and coordination, supporting department communication strategies, and fulfilling several administrative responsibilities, including records and financial data management and customer service.

The Event Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all aspects (including fiscal management) of campus-wide career fairs, UCS retreats / planning days, student & employer programming, UCS Summits / Symposiums / Conferences, professional development events / speakers, campus visitors, and other related events as needed.

The Event Coordinator will work with the Associate Director of Marketing & Analytics to use a variety of communication mediums to ensure events are widely communicated and successfully attended.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of event planning and possess the ability to coordinate, organize, and evaluate meetings and / or events.
  • Demonstrated experience with event budgets.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity to achieve projects, tasks, and successful events.
  • Demonstrated evidence of an analytical mindset, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and networks.

  • Excellent time management skills and skilled in prioritizing tasks under pressure and meeting critical deadlines, as well as excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a busy environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships, and the ability to interact with students, employers, and others in a personable and professional manner and to represent the department effectively and positively.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and reliable record-keeping are also required, as is effective problem-solving within system and policy guidelines.
  • Demonstrated experience using MS Office and the ability to use a variety of multimedia design technologies
  • Commitment to promote and contribute to a respectful and supportive workplace that complies with university and divisional conditions of employment, security, and workplace safety policies.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Experience managing large scale and / or complex events.
  • Experience coordinating career fairs.
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality when handling sensitive matters.
  • Experience working with diverse undergraduate and graduate / professional student, faculty, or staff communities, which reflect an array of ethnic, racial, cultural, faith, gender, and other identities through the delivery of programs and services.
  • Knowledge and awareness of websites, graphic design, and social media applications. Required Licenses / Certifications Special Physical / Mental Requirements Campus Security Authority Responsibilities This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act.

This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
