Position Summary
The Director, Retirement Benefits directs operations of Retirement Benefits for assigned location or fund(s) in accordance with Company guidelines, client needs and regulatory requirements.
Has minimum necessary access to Protected Health Information (PHI) and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) by Job Description / Role."
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides daily leadership and direction to multiple Retirement Benefits teams consistent with Company values and mission.
- Develops management and supervisory staff through performance management, goal setting, training, and effective employee relations.
- Oversees the assignment, distribution, and monitoring of daily operations to ensure client needs and expectations are consistently met.
- Implements and monitors internal systems, policies, and procedures to ensure efficient and effective operations in accordance with Plan guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Oversees the management of expenses for assigned teams to ensure operations remain within budget parameters; determines and implements appropriate course correction when needed.
- Partners with Client Services to address and resolve services issues or escalations with clients.
- Partners with other departments or teams to ensure efficient and accurate implementations or onboarding of new clients.
- Provides regular reporting on operational metrics.
- Attends Board of Trustee meetings to provide retirement benefits updates as needed.
- May participate in presentations for new business or clients.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a business-related field and 7 years of experience working in retirement benefits.
- High school diploma and 10 years of experience working in retirement benefits.
- Five years of experience working in an operations management role.
- Thorough knowledge of defined benefit plans, defined contribution plans, 401(k) plans and benefits administration systems.
- Thorough understanding of ERISA compliance or regulatory procedures.
- Professional maturity with proven success nurturing internal and external relationships.
- Proven ability to recruit, lead and motivate a successful management team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including interpersonal skills.
- Aptitude for strategic thinking and experience executing process improvement measures.
- Strong decision-making and organizational skills, with the ability to optimize the use of all available resources and deliver on multiple priorities.
- Ability to effectively manage remote employees in diverse locations and regions.
- Must be willing to travel as business dictates.Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office tools and applications.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a third-party administrator or Taft-Hartley environment.

- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
