Job Summary The Department of Food Science and Technology invites applications for a part-time (0.30 FTE), 9-month, fixed-term Instructor position.
Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head.
FTE is flexible 0.30 to 0.49 based on business need.
The position location in OSU Corvallis campus, incumbent must be present to teach in-person classes. Relocation expenses will not be provided by the department.
The position will support the instructional needs of the academic programs in the Department of Food Science and Technology (FST) by teaching courses in the food engineering and sustainable food manufacturing areas.
Teaching in other food science courses as well as instructional assessment duties may be assigned as needed.
The incumbent will work with other FST faculty on campus, at the Food Innovation Center, and the Astoria Seafood Lab regarding teaching needs.
The incumbent will be expected to interact with other OSU faculty as needed.

Teach lectures and lab sections that may include; FST 472 / 572 Food Engineering fall term, 473 / 573 Food Engineering winter term, and spring term courses as needed.
Classes are 3 or 4 credits each.
- Develop and revise course content as needed.
- Ensures acquisition and readiness of lab equipment, availability of reagents and other lab materials, and safety provisions for each class.
- Order / purchase products for courses as needed.
- Train and provide leadwork for a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) for laboratory sections.
- Teach other food science courses and / or provide instructional assessment may be assigned as needed.
- Ensures diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts including promoting equitable outcomes among learners of diverse and underrepresented identity groups.
- Participate in activities that increase and promote justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion and mentoring / advising students in class from underrepresented groups.
5% Professional Development
Participate in courses to develop teaching skills from Center for Teaching and Learning.
What You Will Need MS in Food Science, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
Teaching or teaching assistant experience and demonstration of teaching effectiveness.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate with and relate well to students, and to communicate complex topics.

What We Would Like You to Have MS in Food Science which included training in food engineering, food manufacturing, and packaging.
Knowledge of Oregon’s food beverage industry.
Teaching or teaching assistant experience in the classroom and laboratory in the area of food engineering, or food manufacturing, or packaging.
Professional experience in the food / beverage manufacturing. Working Conditions / Work Schedule Work is performed in a classroom and laboratory environment and requires wearing personal protective clothing and equipment.
Position has access to property where hazardous materials and other items controlled by state or federal laws or regulations are located.
Incumbent may need to drive OSU Motor Pool vehicles for field / site visits.
