Literacy Coach

East Cooper Montessori Charter School (ECMCS) of Mount Pleasant, SC is seeking a full-time Literacy Coach for grades 1st-8th.

Our Literacy Coach values data analysis to inform instructional practices. Guided by Maria Montessori's principles , our coach will understand how to weave Montessori practices throughout our SC Standards and objectives , creating organized classrooms and fulfilled teachers .

Our coaches participate in forming the strategic plan that directionally leads our future development. Our coaches understand their first job is supporting teachers;

through that vision, the curriculum and instruction come to life.

Role and Responsibilities :

Data Analysis

• Assist teachers with data collection and the analysis of data results to support classroom instruction.
• Train teachers in data analysis and using data to differentiate instruction.
• Review student achievement and assist with placing students in appropriate Literacy and writing support services.
• Work through all requirements of Read to Succed for teachers and students.

Educator Support

• Collaborate with teachers individually to identify students' literacy needs, set learning goals and targets, and problem-solve with teachers to develop best practices for continuous academic growth in literacy.
• Design PLCs to be used throughout the year to further knowledge and practices in literacy.
• Coach and mentor colleagues. Keep mentor certification up-to-date.
• Collaborate with administration, coaches, and teachers to design and implement a cross-curricular approach.
• Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, co-planning and co-teaching to support assessment, progress monitoring, individualized instruction, and using data to inform instruction.
• Lead curriculum decisions with each team.
• Model effective instructional strategies for teachers through weekly whole or small-group instruction.

School Support

• Work with the administration to develop literacy goals for the strategic plan and other guide documentation.
• Assist with planning and implementing family nights to share literacy strategies and offer ways parents can assist their children with literacy instruction at home.
• Coordinate annual PLC expectations with the administration and teachers.
• Work with the AP to ensure training, teacher certifications, and endorsements align with the current expectations locally, regionally, and nationally.
• Write grants for educational materials and experiences.

Professionalism

• Become knowledgeable about Montessori methodology, terminology, and practices.
• Establish and maintain cooperative and supportive relationships with parents, students, and colleagues.
• Work collaboratively with other educators to monitor and support readers.
• Attend district-planned training and related professional development to help increase knowledge of best practices in Literacy instruction, intervention, and instructional literacy strategies.
