POSITION OVERVIEW

The Individual Giving Officer ( IGO ) is a staff position within the affiliate's Development Department, reporting to the Director of Philanthropy.

The position is focused on cultivating and stewarding mid-level giving donors and other targeted donor communities as identified by the department to renew, retain, and upgrade their financial support to the ACLU.

The IGO will work closely with development colleagues at the ACLU of Florida and the national organization.

The IGO will draft donor communications in order to provide program updates and solicit gifts for annual renewals, special campaigns, year-end fundraising, and other outreach as per the department's annual plan.

The IGO will spend a significant amount of time in direct interaction with donors to develop and grow donor relationships to ensure that each donor learns about the impact of their support of the ACLU and is inspired to upgrade their giving in a manner that is consistent with their values.

The position may require some travel within Florida and possible travel outside of Florida for training purposes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in collaborative development and execution of the overall key donor engagement, development, and growth strategy to advance the local and broader vision, priorities, and initiatives of the ACLU.
  • Interacts with individual donors and prospects to facilitate ascertaining personal passions and key areas of interest for financially supporting the ACLU.
  • Plays a key role in seeking out new relationships and funding opportunities with a focus on first-time philanthropists.
  • Develops and manages a mid-level portfolio of donors statewide.
  • Creates and executes a comprehensive, multi-faceted discovery, cultivation, and solicitation strategy for the mid-level portfolio.
  • Solicits one-time and pledged gifts at the $1,000-$10,000 level.
  • Organizes multi-year giving campaigns focused on recurring gifts.
  • Refers prospects with a major giving potential to appropriate development staff.
  • Records all interactions and post-meeting reports promptly in Salesforce and communicates all aspects of the meeting, from set-up to follow-up, to other team members as needed.
  • Maintains up-to-date and accurate database records to enable portfolio and progress tracking.
  • Meets portfolio goals, including a number of personalized donor interactions across channels each week and month.
  • Participates in National ACLU Development Resources offerings, including weekly meetings and opportunities to engage with development colleagues nationwide;

stays well-versed in the National Development calendar to ensure coordination.

  • Stays well-versed in the current work of the ACLU, locally and nationally, and is an effective representative of the organization focused on increasing memberships.
  • Tracks portfolio activity and performance; provides supervisor with periodic activity and progress reporting on donor solicitation and giving activity, progress toward securing new donor interests and supporters, and overall portfolio progress toward established performance goals including portfolio-wide goals for renewals, retentions, and upgrades.
  • Develops and participates in broader donor cultivation and strategy development initiatives.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with special cultivation and stewardship opportunities, such as strategic small events for select donors / prospects or virtual donor briefings.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the ACLU and ACLU of Florida's programmatic priorities and issues as they occur.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree supplemented by at least two (2) years of donor communication or fundraising experience in a non-profit, public advocacy, or similar environment or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and / or experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Unwavering commitment to the mission and goals of the ACLU.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures for the preparation, production, and maintenance of reports, documentation, and records.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and applicable department / organization specific software and ability to learn and become proficient in the use of other specialized software as may be required.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Skill in using mathematics required for the work.
  • Skill in adapting to a changing work environment, competing demands and ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Ability to synthesize data from a variety of sources to produce clear, well-organized, persuasive, and accurate information.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing; oral and / or writing ability in a second language preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities to ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Ability to use reasoning skills that minimize duplication of efforts, including but not limited to comparing, classifying, analyzing, and coordinating.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Fluency in Spanish or Creole is preferred but not required.
  • CFRE Preferred

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Compensation will be commensurate with experience, within the range of $60,000 to $70,000 . The ACLU of Florida provides excellent benefits, including health and dental insurance with generous vacation, holiday, and sick leave policies, as well as an employer-matched Defined Contribution / 401K Retirement Plan.

Base vacation leave is five weeks per year (and six weeks per year after five years).
