The purpose of the Specialized Foster Care program is to assure continuity of placement of youth in foster care, actively moving toward permanency while providing clinical family therapy interventions and case management supports through the Functional Family Therapy Foster Care model.
The Functional Family Therapist provides clinical family therapy interventions, individualized to meet the broad needs of children and foster parents.
The FFT Therapist actively works on a dyad with the Family Specialist, and in collaboration with DCF to coordinate treatment services to maintain stability in the foster home and achieve permanency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Conduct initial assessments including review of referral information, identifying and engaging key participants, identifying protective and risks factors, and developing analysis of hierarchy and relational assessment within the family.
- Conduct regular family therapy sessions at least 1x per week with dosage adjusted based on clinical needs of the youth and family.
- Address clinical needs of clients through model adherent FFT FC interventions.
- Continually assess for levels of engagement of all key participants and collaborate with supervisor and stakeholders to overcome barriers to engagement.
- Maintain clear and concise model adherent documentation of sessions and collateral contacts that promote monthly supervisory review.
- Conduct on going both model-specific and Foster Care adherent risk assessments and interventions for every family including tailored safety planning, crisis management, and model adherent interventions that target decreasing risk and increasing protective factors.
- Keep stakeholders informed of elevated risks and attend clients’ family court appearances and Administrative Case Reviews.
- Demonstrate appreciation of cultural diversity, heritage and knowledge of cultural issues and patterns.
- Network with DCF and community agencies.
- Complete required documentation in the electronic health record in an accurate and timely manner.
- Participate in on-call coverage on a rotating basis among program staff.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS :
Master's degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology or related Behavioral Health field of study. Therapist must be Licensed in their field of study (LMFT, LPCA, LCSW, LMSW).
At least 1-year experience providing clinical services to children and or families.
- Preference shall be given to candidates that have the following knowledge base :
- Home Based therapy
- Family Systems Theory
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapies
- Trauma reactions and its impact on brain development
- Managing emotional dysregulation due to complex trauma
- Knowledge of racial disparities within behavioral health services
- Child development research and its application in treatment
- Must have awareness of the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of clients served.
- Knowledge of an electronic health record system.
- Knowledge and expertise of the child welfare system, attachment issues, and family systems.
- Bi-lingual is not required but preferred.
