PURPOSE AND SCOPE :
Research and Development (R&D) Senior Technician will assist in the development of innovative products for patients with End-Stage-Renal-Disease (ESRD).
Development activities may consist of tests that determine chemical, biological and physical characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials for such purposes as quality control, process control, or product development.
The Senior Tech will perform complex tasks and work in close coordination with lead technician / engineers / scientists for the purpose of improving existing products and developing new products and processes.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- May assist lead technicians / engineers / scientists in data analysis, statistics, and trend analysis.
- Write reports discussing results, which can include graphs and charts. May present updates of research / work at R&D and other laboratory meetings as required.
- Assist senior level staff in developing new techniques, test methods (TMs) and performing validations on TMs or test systems.
- Write standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other documents as deemed necessary.
- Assist lead technician / supervisor in scheduling testing and ensuring smooth operation of the laboratory.
- Works with issues of moderate scope where analysis of situation or data requires a review of a variety of factors.
- Work on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions.
- Assist in various projects as assigned by supervisor.
- May analyze data qualitatively and statistically.
- Set-up, adjust, and operate various types of equipment and instruments.
- Perform experiments for development research projects under limited guidance and supervision of immediate supervisor / lead.
May perform limited troubleshooting and / or out of specification investigations under supervision.
- Test samples of manufactured products to verify conformity to specifications.
- Record test results on standardized forms and maintain good documentation practices.
- Maintain order and cleanliness of laboratories and warehousing space, including inventories of developmental materials.
- Exercise professional capability to properly apply company policies and procedures.
- Refer to senior level staff for assistance with complex problems that may arise.
- Escalate issues to supervisor / manager as necessary.
- Review and comply with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws and regulations.
- Regular attendance and maintaining a good attendance record is an essential function of the job.
- Maintain laboratory notebook in accordance with standard procedures and cGMP.
- Maintain general housekeeping of working area and plant.
- Other duties as assigned.
Laboratory Focus
- Act as a subject matter expert where appropriate.
- MUST HAVE : experience in an instrument lab (sample preparation, volumetric pipetting and related calculations, analytical instrument operation).
- Perform and maintain validations on current or new equipment or test methods as required.
- Work on assignments requiring considerable judgment and initiative. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration for laboratory equipment at required intervals.
- Test development products to verify conformity to specifications.
- Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
- Work on assignments that are semi-routine in nature with occasional deviation from accepted practice.
- Ensure material inventories (chemicals, reagents, equipment) are stocked and sufficient.
EDUCATION :
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry required. Associates degree with extensive equivalent experience considered.
- Class work to include general chemistry, organic chemistry, and analytical chemistry (Quantitative Analysis / Instrumental Analysis)
- Chemistry background required
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS :
- 1+ years’ experience in an analytical lab performing wet chemistry or equivalent, directly related work experience.
- 2-3 years’ experience preferred
- cGMP experience preferred
- Chromatography (HPLC, LC-MS, and / or GC) experience preferred.
- Must be capable to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Must be capable of interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Must have good organizational skills, and be able to perform work in a team environment with a minimum level of supervision.
- Must have an aptitude for math with basic algebraic skills such as, conversion of units, calculations of surface area, mass weights, and measurements skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
1 year contract with potential to extend based on performance. We are looking for someone that has a Chemistry or Biochemistry degree with a chemistry background.
Pertinent classes taken would include general chemistry, organic chemistry and analytical chemistry (Quantitative analysis and / or Instrumental Analysis).
This person needs to have experience in an analytical lab performing basic laboratory procedures in wet chemistry and experience working with volumetric pipetting, balances, and related calculations.
Analytical instrument operation is a must have with experience with HPLC, LC-MS, and / or GC being highly preferred. cGMP experience in a regulated environment is preferred.
