Major Responsibilities :
Performs assessment of client status and formulates a massage treatment plan in accordance with the client's goals and massage practice standards;
ensures assessments reflect synthesis of gathered data into an appropriate plan of care. Recognizes client's inability to attain goals and consults with appropriate personnel.
- Identifies contraindications to massage and takes recommended precautions. Contraindications include phlebitis or thrombophlebitis, edema, skin conditions, mononucleosis, acute rheumatoid arthritis, infection, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, malignancy, insulin-depended diabetes, medications, and acute inflammatory conditions.
- Completes all required documentation within the same business day of the client's visit.
- Performs massage therapy to assigned patients utilizing appropriate methods according to licensure guidelines and professional practice.
Incorporates appropriate type of relaxation massage into sessions (i.e., neuromuscular, craniosacral, lymph, reflexology) to meet the needs of patient's history and goals.
- Tailors education to meet the age-specific and individualized needs of the client. Takes an active role in program development and contributes ideas for the development of promotional materials and community education.
- Prepares treatment area before patient arrival; prepares equipment, sets environmental lighting and music to create relaxing atmosphere.
Provides an environment consistent with accepted standards of sanitation, hygiene, safety, and Universal Precautions. Responsible for cleanup after treatment, which includes sanitizing equipment and maintaining neat, orderly workstations.
Acknowledges confidential nature of the professional relationship with a client and respects each client's right to privacy.
Seeks out methods to meet privacy needs by providing adequate draping, etc.
- Upon delegation, when assigned to an outside clinic, assists with general cleaning, ordering and dispensing of clean linen, and miscellaneous clerical duties.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his / her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.

Licensure, Registration, and / or Certification Required :
- Massage Therapist license issued by the state of Wisconsin, and
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providerscertification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
Education Required :
Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Massage Therapy.
Experience Required :
Experience with oncology massage or in healthcare preferred, but not required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required :
- Intermediate computer skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organization, decision-making, and problem solving skills.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions :
- Must be able to stand approximately 75% of the workday.
- Must be able to sit, walk, squat, bend, twist, kneel, and reach above shoulders on a daily basis.
- Must be able to lift up to 10 lbs. frequently and up to 35 lbs. occasionally.
- Position requires repetitive use of hands :
- Simple grasping (75% of workday).
- Pushing and / or pulling (30% of workday).
- Fine manipulation (i.e., continuous massaging of soft body tissue).
- Position requires repetitive use of feet (i.e., foot pedals to control hydraulic table).
- Must have functional speech, vision, touch, and hearing.
- May be exposed to electrical hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, protective clothing (i.e., gown, gloves, masks) must be worn as necessary.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
