- Extract, purify, and fractionate humic substances (HS) from a variety of ore, soil and liquid sources and characterize them using a variety of analytical and wet-chemistry techniques.
- Assist to improve current HS-based product quality, performance, and assurance.
- Design and conduct both chemistry and plant experiments to elucidate the bio stimulatory mode of action of HS on plants.
- Participate and develop collaborations with outside groups that will aid the goal of elucidating the bio stimulatory mode of action of HS.
- Keep abreast of latest literature of HS as it applies to chemistry elucidation and other relevant plant physiology research.
- Perform interpretation of experiment outcomes through statistical analyses. Maintain all data in spreadsheets and prepare reports.
- Investigate and master new analytical and plant physiological techniques that will aid in elucidation of HS plant biostimulant activity.
- Be familiar with and adhere to environmental health and safety practices.
- Unanticipated domestic and international travel to attend conferences as well as disseminate scientific outcomes.

Job Requirements :
Education Requirements : Masters Degree in Forest Resources and Conservation, Agricultural Biotechnology, or closely related.
Employer will accept foreign equivalent degree, or PhD in the same field.
- Experience Requirements : 18 months of experience in job offered, Post Doc Researcher, Research Collaborator, or closely related.
- Extraction, purification and characterization of humic substances from soil, ore, compost and recycled organic biomasses.
- Design and execution of plant growth experiments in growth room, greenhouse, and field in order to perform interpretation and statistical analyses of the outcomes.
- Use of analytical tools for the chemical characterization of humic substances such as : 13C NMR, 1H NMR, FTIR, GC-MS, HCNS, ICP-MS, HPLC, LC-TOF MS, TGA-DSC, and UV-Vis.
- Experience with the use of molecular biology tools to investigate plant genetic and soil microbial response such as : DNA extraction and purification, PCR, qPCR, box-PCR, and DGGE electrophoresis.
- Knowledge of plant bio-assay analyses to investigate plant physiological response such as : Root architecture analysis, Chlorophyll analysis, Fluorescence Chlorophyll and carotenoids measurement, enzymatic activity, brix content, Phosphorus organic / inorganic content, and Nitrogen content.
- Knowledge of soil chemistry analysis protocol to investigate soil quality such as : measurement of organic matter content, clay minerals and sand, analysis of soil C content (Walkleyblack), content of nitrogen (Kjeldahl) and organic / inorganic phosphorus, and analysis of pyrolysis derivates of organic matter.
