The Mechanical Engineer's responsibilities revolve around creating accurate and compliant CAD designs, supporting project teams, ensuring quality and regulatory compliance, and contributing to the successful execution of transportation infrastructure projects. This role is pivotal in translating conceptual designs into tangible, functional infrastructure that meets the operational and safety needs of public transportation systems.
Here's what some of your responsibilities will include :
Maintain proficiency in Fusion 360 and good working knowledge of using CAD software (such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or SolidWorks) to produce accurate 2D and 3D designs, layouts, and schematics of transportation infrastructure components, such as railway tracks, stations, platforms, signage, and mechanical components.Translate conceptual designs and engineering specifications into detailed technical drawings that adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements.Collaborating closely with engineers, and other stakeholders to understand design requirements, constraints, and project goals.Ability to understand physical and electrical properties of different materials to facilitate choosing correct material to meet design criteria.Participating in design reviews and making revisions as necessary based on feedback and design validation processes.Maintaining Design Documentation, organizing and managing CAD files and associated documentation, ensuring version control and adherence to company standards.Generate reports and documentation summarizing design decisions, specifications, and changes throughout the design process.Ensuring that CAD designs comply with industry standards, regulations and safety codes relevant to the rail and public transportation sectors.Performing quality assurance checks on CAD models and drawings to verify accuracy, completeness, and adherence to design specifications before final release.Providing technical support to address design issues, conflicts, or discrepancies that arise during construction or implementation phases.Identifying opportunities for design optimization, efficiency improvements, and cost savings while maintaining design integrity and functionality.Assisting project managers and engineers in coordinating design activities, ensuring timely delivery of CAD deliverables, and meeting project milestones.Tracking and managing design changes throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring that updates are properly documented and communicated to relevant stakeholders.Staying updated with advancements in CAD software, industry trends, and best practices through ongoing training and professional development opportunities.Collaborating with disciplines such as civil engineering, electrical engineering, and architecture to integrate CAD designs into comprehensive project plans.Interfacing with contractors and suppliers to ensure accurate implementation of design specifications during construction and installation phases.Emphasis on the need for a comprehensive understanding of the project. From the initial concept to the final output, every phase should be interconnected. Understanding how each part affects the whole ensures that the design is cohesive and meets the project's goals. Allowing considerations for future needs and changes.Conduct site surveys and analyses of installations, equipment, vehicles and environments.Creating installation plans for Piper products on clients' vehicles and structures.Creating and managing orders with manufacturers to fabricate Piper products successfully.Having foresight in creating designs that are adaptable and scalable, accommodating potential modifications without significant rework.Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field :0-2 years of experience (this too) in CAD design roles, preferably within the transportation industry or civil engineering sector.Extensive experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, SolidWorks, or similar tools used for 2D and 3D drafting and modeling.Prior experience in the transportation infrastructure projects beneficial.CAD Certification, a plusREADY TO APPLY?
