The Industrial Diesel Generator Field Technician specializes in the maintenance, troubleshooting, part replacement, and load banking of industrial diesel generators, specifically those from leading manufacturers such as Cummins, CAT, Kohler, Generac, Detroit Diesel, MTU, and others with capacities up to 2 MW.
This role demands a highly skilled technician with expertise in diesel engine mechanics, electrical systems, and generator load testing.
The technician will ensure the reliability and optimal performance of generator systems through regular maintenance and rapid troubleshooting in the field.
Key Responsibilities :
- Routine Maintenance :
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on industrial diesel generators from brands like Cummins, CAT, Kohler, Generac, Detroit Diesel, MTU, and others, ensuring all components function correctly and efficiently.
- Inspect and replace wear parts such as filters, belts, hoses, and fluids according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Conduct detailed inspections to identify potential issues before they lead to equipment failure.
- Part Replacement :
- Identify and replace faulty or worn parts, including engines, alternators, batteries, and control panels, specific to Cummins, CAT, Kohler, Generac, Detroit Diesel, MTU, and other brands.
- Source and install OEM or approved replacement parts to maintain generator reliability.
- Ensure all replaced parts meet manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
- Troubleshooting & Diagnostics :
- Quickly diagnose mechanical and electrical problems in diesel generators using diagnostic tools, software, and technical manuals specific to the generators worked on.
- Implement effective repairs to restore generator function, minimizing downtime.
- Conduct root cause analysis on recurring issues and develop strategies to prevent future occurrences.
- Load Banking & Testing :
- Perform load bank testing on generators up to 2 MW to verify performance under varying loads.
- Analyze test results to ensure generators from Cummins, CAT, Kohler, Generac, Detroit Diesel, MTU, and others can meet power requirements during real-world operation.
- Adjust and calibrate equipment based on load testing outcomes to optimize generator performance.
- Documentation & Reporting :
- Accurately complete service records, including maintenance logs, part replacement history, and troubleshooting reports.
- Provide detailed reports to the service manager on generator conditions, repairs performed, and recommendations for future maintenance.
- Maintain organized documentation to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Customer Interaction :
- Communicate effectively with customers to explain maintenance and repair activities.
- Provide guidance on best practices for operating and maintaining their generator systems.
- Respond to customer inquiries and emergency service requests promptly and professionally.
