Job Summary

CDE Manager is responsible for providing strategic leadership for continuing dental education programs for the dental community, including developing courses, securing speakers (both new and returning), establishing and meeting metrics to ensure overall success and positive revenue stream to maintain the unit.

The Manager of CDE works with closely with dentistry professionals, both internal and external, to establish a robust and varied speaker pool.

The Manager ensures the program offerings meet the educational needs and interests of the dental community. It is expected that the Manager will analyze and develop new courses, that ensure clinical, scientific, and evidence-based content is included.

The Manager is expected to have exceptional people, communication, and leadership skills, which play an important role in maintaining professional and strong relationships with the CDE Advisory Committee, as well as faculty, staff, students, and collaborators across the University and national organizations.

This position will require some travel, including evenings / weekends to coordinate and oversee CDE programs.

The UCSF School of Dentistry Continuing Dental Education provides learning opportunities for dental professionals at all career stages.

Courses range from single-day lectures to weeklong symposia. Additionally, the UCSF School of Dentistry Continuing Dental Education offers preceptorship / fellowships programs (Oral Medicine, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, Prosthodontics and Maxillofacial Prosthetics, Periodontology, Endodontics, Advanced Education in General Dentistry) for domestic and international dental school graduates and practitioners.

The objective of the preceptorship program is to provide additional educational experiences to dentists in a specific area of subspecialty interest.

The preceptors attend school on a full-time basis. The curriculum includes classes with postgraduate and undergraduate dental students and residents.

It involves observation and participation in the clinics and operating rooms.

UCSF Continuing Dental Education Is an ADA CERP, (American Dental Association Continuing Education Recognition Program), Recognized Provider.

ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education.

All COE activities : lecture, hands-on, participation, preceptorship / fellowship programs are accredited by ADA CERP and the Dental Board of California

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Minimum 5+ years of related experience
  • Prior event management experience
  • Expert knowledge of internal and external policies and regulatory requirements. Expert knowledge of a health professions education program curriculum and requirements.

Maintains a deep expertise in health professions education theory and industry best practices.

  • Expert knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills to develop and implement processes and systems to highly complex, unprecedented situations in administration and operations.
  • Excellent communicator; great critical thinking and advising skills. Persuasive ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance from leadership.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills. Strong diplomacy skills and ability to develop strong working relationships with department, Management, industry leaders and external agencies.

Proven ability to advise and influence all levels of leadership and staff.

Highly developed skills and expertise in organizational and project management. Leads teams and directs projects through from inception to completion on schedule.

Excellent personal organization skills.

  • Expert knowledge of current and emerging educational technologies to enhance teaching and learning practices. Expert ability to facilitate educational technology opportunities using technology-based solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of data management, documentation methods used in investigating and presenting findings about the program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in related area preferred
  • Prior experience coordinating continuing education coursework to dental or health professionals
