As T-Mobile is developing and supporting more of it's own branded experiences, the role of the Hardware Engineering Program Manager (EPM) is to plan and direct hardware development efforts including small-scale proof of concepts, up to full scale, retail-ready devices, moving the program through the product development lifecycle.
The EPM organizes the necessary team members and resources moving the product from early concept, through requirements, industrial design, detailed hardware engineering (mechanical, electrical, RF), manufacturing validation, reliability testing, industry certifications, to T-Mobile lab testing, with a clear focus on driving products to a successful completion.
The EPM is responsible for defining and managing the overall program plan, including developing a detailed schedule, defining necessary engineering stage gates, leadership check points, critical paths, contingency plans, scope, and budget for the program.
This is a hybrid position required to be working in-office at least 3 days a week.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Program scheduling, planning, and budget - The EPM facilitates the creation of the project plan and master schedule with the team, ensuring timely delivery of the various device development work streams for both internal and external partner teams working on the program.
He / she is responsible for examining product related technical documentation (product requirements documents, engineering requirements, technical requirements, testing and lab entry documentation) for completeness and latest versions and ensures availability and distribution to all project team members.
Ensures a complete understanding of the budget and expected spend, both OPEX and CAPEX and monitors and reports on any changes.
Hardware design, development and manufacturing - The EPM owns defining and ensuring that entry and exit criteria is met for each device development and manufacturing phases (Proto, EVT, DVT, PVT, and MP), prior to advancing to the next phase in the hardware development lifecycle.
The EPM works with all parties, internal and external to ensure that what is being delivered will meet all technical and desired quality requirements.
Program monitoring, risk mitigation, and reporting - The EPM constantly monitors progress and performance against the program plan, ensures team alignment, and regularly communicates status and changes to the program.
As needed, the EPM will highlight and escalate any issues and articulate potential impacts to the program’s ability to achieve the desired product goals, including budget, product quality, feature set and / or schedule changes.
ODM engagement, coordination and oversight - The EPM participates in supporting evaluation of hardware engineering team capabilities and on-site factory audits with potential Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) / Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs), providing technical evaluation reports to inform partner selection decisions.
Once selected, they serve as the primary POC with ODM’s and other engineering third parties, managing lines of communication, work progress, schedule coordination, escalations, and ultimately product wind down when product has reached EOL.
Leadership - Works with Director and above level peers to resolve cross-functional and project issues. Influences / manages the factors that create scope creep.
Can manage and help others to understand the implications of change including legitimate scope shift. Mentors and provides guidance and support to more junior EPMs.
Also responsible for other Duties / Projects as assigned by business management as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science
10 years of industry experience as a program manager or engineering program manager within a technology environment, with a progressive record of successful delivery of complex hardware products, sub-systems of larger hardware solutions, or embedded software solutions.
Deep knowledge of new hardware product development processes, supply chain, and product life cycle management
Experience managing multiple international ODMs, component suppliers, and 3rd party vendors as part of complex hardware device solutions
Strong understanding of general should costs for components, manufacturing processes and overall product costs
Experience working on products that incorporate one or more wireless technologies
Experience acting as a business leader that can interpret business goals and easily apply them to product development processes.
Detail oriented; able to prioritize, speak and direct as a business leader; problem solving skills a must
Effective written and oral communication with multiple levels of business and technical leadership
Certifications in focused areas such as project management, agile methodologies, product lifecycle processes, or any related industry certifications preferred

Washington Pay Range : $155,600.00 - $210,600.00The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the state listed.
The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay may be above or below this range.
At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role.
Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and / or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year.
Certain positions in Customer Care are eligible for monthly bonuses based on individual and / or team performance, while Retail and Business Sales roles are eligible for monthly or quarterly sales incentives.
