The two-time Calder Cup champion Grand Rapids Griffins, primary affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, announce an opening for a Public Relations Home Game Intern .
The internship starts in October 2024 and lasts until the conclusion of the 2024-25 American Hockey League season (April-June 2025, depending on playoffs).
This internship is intended to help prepare the individual for employment with a professional sports team. Responsibilities :
- Game-night responsibilities include but are not limited to press box setup and teardown, distribution of media credentials, and assisting PR staff in the press box ;
- Provide additional team coverage for griffinshockey.com by attending occasional practices to write player feature stories and Q&As;
- Assist with the distribution of community program / event materials;
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications :
- Recent college graduate, senior / junior-year undergraduate student, or post-graduate student, majoring in communications, sport management, journalism, public relations, or related field;
- Availability to work 36 home games plus playoffs (approx. 7 hours per game, primarily on nights and weekends and including holidays), plus occasional office hours during the week;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including working knowledge of and adherence to AP Style;
- Intense desire to progress professionally within the sports PR industry;
- Creativity, exacting attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage a variety of simultaneous tasks and meet deadlines;
- Computer proficiency;
- Self-starting, highly motivated individual with exceptional work ethic and unquestioned dependability;
- Personal, professional demeanor;
- Astute knowledge of and interest in hockey. Compensation :
