21st Century Music Co-Instructor
Under the supervision of the Building Principal and music teacher, is responsible for assisting in teaching music education to pupils.
Helps pupils grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences.
Performs other duties directly related to this job description.
DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Teaches skills related to orchestra instruments and instrumental ensemble to pupils. Utilize course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
- Plans a balanced lesson and organize daily class time so that rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Utilizes provided varied repertoire, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of the pupils.
- Makes minor instrument adjustments and inform direct supervisor of necessary instrument repairs as needed.
- Establishes and maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
- Evaluates each pupil’s musical growth and performance, assessing each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group.
- Supports music teacher during rehearsals and during musical performances for school and community. Applies knowledge of national, state and district procedures and limitations during rehearsals and performances.
- Supports in maintaining required inventory records of musical instruments and instructional aids to prevent loss or abuse.
Supports in the storage and use of school-owned property.
- Maintains professional dress casual attire during school activities and out of school performances.
- Participates cooperatively with the music teacher in putting away all instruments, music stands, uniforms and any other appropriate items used for performances and after daily class instruction.
ADDITIONAL RELATED DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Communicates with supervisor and parents regarding pupil progress.
- Cooperates with school administration in preparing performance programs and flyers for school musical productions, graduation ceremonies, and civic functions.
- Supervises pupils during out-of-classroom events during the assigned work day.
STUDENT ATTENDANCE : Accurate attendance records are a very important part of 21st CCLC grant. Our effectiveness as a summer school program is measured partly by how many students attend regularly.
Consequently each instructor will be provided with a roster of students to record attendance. Attendance should be turned in DAILY and will be monitored by the Summer School Coordinators.
STRUCTURE :
In the classroom each student should automatically get started on the lesson to be taught for the day.
Clear objectives will be posted.
- Rules-same rules apply to 21st CCLC as during the regular school year.
- EACH student should have an assigned seating area or desk. Seating assignments are important for structure and expectations. CELL PHONES :
- Cell phones to be used during class time.
- No personal phone calls during class time will be allowed unless it is an emergency.
- Give family and friends the school number so that they can contact you in the event of an emergency.
- Phone calls can be made before or after class unless prior authorization has been given. STUDENT SUPERVISION :
- During breakfast and lunch (according to a duty schedule)
