POSITION PURPOSE

Reporting to the Director of Campus Ministry, the Campus Minister for Multi-Religious Formation will offer pastoral care, leadership and service to the university community.

In particular, this position will advance the mission of the Office of Campus Ministry of fostering the religious formation of students by supporting and partnering with student religious organizations, facilitating the spiritual formation of Campus Ministry’s multifaith student team, coordinating with Student Life for student pastoral care, and by supporting the general work of the Division of Mission and Ministry.

This is a full-time, 12 month / year position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Develops and implements a program for religious formation of students.

B. Develops and implements the Campus Ministry intern program.

C. Pilots new initiatives relating to religious formation

D. Supports the development of students with mentorship and pastoral care.

E. Manages all operational and financial aspects related to the portfolio.

F. Contributes to the broader work of the Division.

G. Executes other duties as assigned.

A. Develops and implements a program for religious formation of students.

Creates experiences for students to practice their religious tradition by offering opportunities for prayer, scripture study, meditation, worship and service, in collaboration with Campus Ministry interns and with the leaders of student religious organizations.

Leads the spiritual formation programming for Campus Ministry’s multifaith intern team, working in collaboration with the Campus Ministry team.

Builds relationships with and offers administrative support to SCU’s religious Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), such as College Catholics, Acts 2 Christian Fellowship, Kleisis, Muslim Student Association, New Life on Campus, Sikh Student Association, Swadés, and the Jewish Student Union.

Fosters partnerships and organizes sacred space visits with religious communities in the surrounding area to create opportunities for students to connect with a wider diversity of lived faith experiences.

Coordinates the celebration of religious holidays (e.g. Welcome Havdalah, Passover Seder, Ramadan Iftars and Eid Banquet, Holi festival, Diwali celebration, Sikh holidays), in collaboration with the Campus Minister for Religious and Spiritual Diversity and student religious organizations.

B. Develops and implements the Campus Ministry intern program.

Coordinates recruitment, hiring, and training of all undergraduate student ministry interns, including updating job descriptions, evaluating campus ministry needs, and managing ongoing employment needs.

Creates opportunities for ongoing student formation throughout

the academic year, including onboarding, new year training, and mid-year updates.

Provides ongoing formation opportunities to empower students to serve as Peer Ministers, i.e. caring for other students.

C. Pilots new initiatives relating to religious formation.

Plans and organizes student formation events and programs that foster religious formation

Offers resources and network connections to support student formation

Develops and supports programming that expands the reach of Campus Ministry to individuals and student groups that are currently unaffiliated with the office.

D. Supports the development of students with mentorship and pastoral care :

Provides pastoral support to students, regardless of religious affiliation; may include support during crises, spiritual accompaniment, and general mentorship.

Supports other Campus Ministry-sponsored events and programs, such as outreach, retreats, university liturgies and departmental planning.

Represents the Office of Campus Ministry and its pastoral role in varied university functions and committees.

Conducts regular meetings with student employees and volunteers to foster their learning and formation in ministry.

Promotes sustainable time commitments among student employees and volunteers.

Develops student leaders who are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.

E. Manages all operational and financial aspects related to the portfolio :

With support of operations staff, leads effective operation of program activities.

Manages annual allocated program budget, including quarterly reporting to Assistant Vice President of the Division.

Hires, trains, and supervises student employees and interns as needed.

Supports fundraising opportunities for the Division.

Conducts annual assessment of programs, under the guidance of the Director of Campus Ministry and the Assistant Vice President of the Division.

F. Contributes to the broader work of the Division.

Consults with constituent programs to deeper align them with the university’s Catholic, Jesuit educational mission.

Regularly attends Ignatian programming and Catholic liturgy events offered by other Division programs, including some events that may be held outside of regular business hours.

Regularly attends SCU campus-wide, staff-wide, and academic programming events to represent Ignatian Spirituality perspectives, to form relationships to support engagement with Ignatian Spirituality, and to inform Ignatian Spirituality programming, including come events that may be held outside of regular business hours Executes other duties as assigned.

G. Executes other duties as assigned.

E. QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The items below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience required or preferred.

1. Knowledge

Close familiarity with the Jesuit educational tradition, and Ignatian spirituality and values.

Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with a wide variety of faith traditions and ability to minister in a religiously diverse setting.

2. Skills

Demonstrates proficiency with facilitating group discussions and faith-sharing group activities.

Strong verbal / written communication and influencing skills.

Superior ability to communicate with religiously and intellectually diverse audiences.

Inter- and intra-culturally competent and skilled in working with and supporting faculty and staff from a wide variety of backgrounds and orientations.

Open, objective, innovative, and oriented toward understanding and responding to issues from divergent perspectives.

Outstanding organizational and project management skills.

Proficiency in using diverse electronic tools, such as Microsoft Office, Google Apps for Education, social media, Canva, Workday, and the ability to adapt to new technologies.

3. Abilities

Ability to support and guide students in issues related to the integration of their faith life.

Demonstrated high-level performance in organizational entrepreneurship and creativity.

Demonstrated high-level performance in successfully driving projects from inception to completion.

Excellent overall judgment combined with attention to detail.

Ability to consistently demonstrate a commitment to equity and respect in the workplace, a genuine desire to promote a supportive climate for all members of the SCU community, intercultural awareness, communication and understanding, and the ability to manage difficult and contentious situations.

Demonstrated high level record of building and managing effective connection with a range of constituencies to achieve success.

Availability to work variable hours when required to accomplish project goals.

Valid U.S. Driver's License.

4. Education and experience

Master Degree required or an equivalent combination of education and / of experience, ideally in theology, ministry, or related field required.

Experience with and / or an openness to learning from a diversity of religious traditions preferred. This includes Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish, and Hindu traditions.

Collaborative experience in event planning and management.

Years of Experience

At least 1 year of ministerial experience (paid or volunteer), required.
