Your responsibilities
Position Summary
Manages and optimizes the purchasing of direct and indirect materials. Designs procurement business processes in such way that all required materials and services are purchased to the required quality, on time and the best cost.
Responsibilities include achieving agreed upon departmental targets and focus activities; disciplinary and functional leadership of assigned staff;
coordinating purchasing activities between tk Rothe Erde; planning, administering, and completing assigned projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Procurement Activity, Strategy, Goals & Controlling :
- Sets strategic and operative procurement strategy in line with Company targets.
- Responsible for all steel purchases, inventory management and annual price negotiations.
- Responsible for the purchase and price negotiation of all externally purchased forgings.
- Responsible for the purchase of all subcontracted services as they apply to finished product.
- Ensures compliance with all relevant Company, Rothe Erde and thyssenkrupp policies.
- Assists in the development of annual raw material and component part standard costs in collaboration with Finance.
- Develops and implements suitable tools in SAP to build adequate purchasing controls.
- Vendor Management :
- Key Supplier Relationship Management : prepares and conducts major negotiations with strategic suppliers.
- Monitors and improves claim management (e.g. returns and debit memos).
- Bundles procurement requirements to leverage negotiation position.
Organization :
- Coordinates and interfaces with internal customers regarding sourcing categories.
- Develops and maintains the Purchasing Manual, which describes main business processes in the Purchasing Department, as well as any work instructions.
- Identifies and implements necessary training for purchasing personnel as identified in their annual appraisals.
- Participates actively in the continuous improvement of departmental business processes.
- Implements a project management process for complex problem statements or duties.
- Reports all cost savings activities and successes, including impact savings.
- Identifies, assesses, manages and reports commercial, quality or supply risks as they apply to the Company and its continuous business operations.
- Identifies and participates in supplier audits to assure compliance with quality and delivery requirements.
- Supports sustainability in accordance with tk Supplier Code of Conduct.
- Maintains a safe working environment by complying with all safety and environmental policies in the workplace. Advocates for and promotes a safe work environment by reporting near misses and / or other safety and environmental hazards, wearing all required PPE and encouraging others to do the same.
Management Responsibilities :
- Plans, organizes, directs and supervises the efforts of two direct reports.
- Conducts performance appraisals in accordance with procedures, recommends transfers, promotions and remuneration of assigned staff.
- Where necessary, enforces disciplinary procedures, codes and guidelines.
- Reviews and collaborates with staff for the identification and implementation of needed training and skill attainment.
- Mentors and develops staff as well as supports succession planning.

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to work in both imperial and metric measurement systems, including conversion from one to the other.
Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Knowledge of thyssenkrupp and BU Bearing information systems, policies and procedures.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree, with three to five years related experience in the purchasing field. Master's degree a plus.
- Experience with strategic and global sourcing such as SAP Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
- Experience with negotiations, contract law and U.S. / global antitrust laws.
- Formal certifications (APICS CPIM, ISM C.P.M., CSPM or PMP) preferred.
- Cross-cultural competence and experience preferred.
