Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Grading Foreman supervises and works alongside a crew of employees and occasionally subcontractors when needed to assist in the installation and construction grading projects.

The incumbent will supervise work through the planning and scheduling of work and the review and approval of tasks. The individual will practice absolute confidentiality.

Good judgment and common sense is required in all duties and any other tasks as assigned. Normal work hours are the day or night shift eight (8) to fourteen (14) hours Monday through Friday.

There may be weekend work depending on the contract. Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) as required. This job description provides an overview of responsibilities and task to be performed.

Required Skills

Complies with all safety policies, procedures and established safe practices and ensures that all employees reporting to you do the same.

Reports all unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor and / or the Manager Safety & Health.

  • Trains, develops, and monitors the safety practices (including PPE) of own employees through regularly scheduled safety meetings, one on one development, reminders and disciplinary action, if necessary
  • Follows all requirements listed in the Supervisor Safety Procedure Manual (SSPM) including, but not limited to, safety training, emergency procedures, accident reporting and investigation and employee observations.
  • Ensures compliance of production staff with all policies and procedures, OSHA, MSHA, and NCDOT guidelines.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area and meets other housekeeping needs as required by Sunrock, MSHA 30 CFR 56.20003, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.

Required Experiences

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred and three (3) to five (5) years of related experience required.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • OSHA 10 hour preferred
  • Storm water Supervisor Level II Certification Preferred
  • Lane Closure Certification Preferred
  • Trenching safety and confined space certification preferred
  • Current North Carolina Driver’s License
