General Description of Position Under the general direction and supervision of the Vice President, the Associate Vice President of the Milford Campus is responsible for administrative oversight and ongoing supervision of the Milford Campus.

Work involves leading, planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating the day-to-day activities and operations of the Milford Campus, and college-wide leadership responsibilities.

This position requires travel to all SCC campuses and locations to perform the essential functions of college leadership responsibility as deemed necessary, work with the campus administration and staff on each campus to ensure effective operations, serve as the communication link between staff and campus administration, and serve as a member of the campus and college administrative units.

This is a full-time regular position.

Essential Functions

Campus Leadership, Management, and Culture

  • Provide College-wide leadership, vision, innovation, support, and supervision for the Milford Campus operation.
  • Provide direction and leadership for the Milford Campus operational and facility components.
  • Provide oversight for strategic plans for maintenance and growth of the programs at Milford Campus that are consistent with the campus / college goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for staffing, budget management, purchasing, and marketing for Milford operations.
  • Provide appropriate leadership, vision, and direction to ensure that services, programs, technology, and initiatives of the College are fully supported for employees and students.
  • Responsible for all campus operations.
  • Represents the College and campus at activities on the local, state, regional, and national level.
  • Available to meet the needs of students, staff, and faculty.

Campus Safety and Security

  • Chair the Milford Campus Safety Team and serve on the Area Safety Team.
  • Serve on the campus management council and other campus and college teams as deemed necessary.
  • Serve as point of contact for incident and accident reports. Communicate with the College’s carrier (NIRMA), Human Resources, and Physical Plant in a timely manner on all accidents and injuries as necessary.
  • Coordinate with Safety & Security staff, and serve as the lead campus administrator for campus safety, security, and threat assessment evaluation and response.
  • Serve as the Campus Security Authority and as a liaison between the College and law enforcement for security camera footage requests.
  • Work with physical plant superintendents and campus safety and security staff to assess and implement college and campus safety conditions.
  • Plan and implement quarterly fire and storm drills on campus in accordance with federal compliance.
  • Monitor video camera surveillance equipment and review footage as requested.
  • Oversee the campus’s timely notification process in accordance with federal regulations and administer the emergency notification system for the campus.

Communications and Public Relations

  • Assist with, and as directed, serve as a representative of the Campus with the community, organizations, and the public to assist in enhancing and maintaining the visibility and activity of the Campus with community, businesses, and organizations.
  • Maintain and develop positive relationships with Nebraska Community College Student Service personnel.
  • Communicate with the public, students, faculty, and staff on a daily basis. Handle inquiries concerning various areas of the College as appropriate.
  • Assure the functioning of the Campus by assisting with coordination of services as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with College instruction and non-instructional divisions, educational institutions, business / industries, and community organizations.

Communicate with the public, students, faculty and staff on a daily basis. Work with community committees and organizations to promote and enhance the college and its activities.

Active as a public speaker and handles campus concerns in areas of responsibility.

Assist in the planning and delivery of various Campus events including but not limited to Discovery Days, In-Services, awards, retirements, graduation, and new student orientation.

Provide supervision as needed or assigned at campus events.

Assist in the development and delivery of resources and staff development, etc. for staff.Responsible for the identification and implementation of staff training needs.

Participate and encourage staff participation in professional development activities and professional organizations.Provide positive leadership in organizing and directing group activities.

On-Campus Direction for Campus Proceedings

In collaboration with other campus administrators, provide direction, guidance, supervision, and oversight of events, activities, and procedures on campus including, but not limited to, residential housing, student life, employee proceedings, etc.

Other / General Responsibilities

Represent the Milford Campus and Student Success / Student Enrollment divisions on campus / college administrative teams and work groups including the campus management council and other College teams as assigned.

Attend division and college meetings as assigned. Assist in the formulation / review / implementation of campus operating procedures.

Internal / external reporting and regulation compliance;Lead the development, review and revision of department and campus-based reporting or publications such as;

the annual security report, college catalog and other departmental and campus-based materialsProvide assistance in preparing reports and institutional data related to campus Student Success / Student Enrollment as requested by State and Federal agencies.

Work in collaboration with the Administrative Director of Institutional Effectiveness in development and distribution of data and reports.

Review, monitor, formulate, revise, implement, and direct Student Success / Student Enrollment operations and campus services to ensure that operations are consistent with college and campus policies, regulations, and operating procedures.

Inform and assist staff with interpretation and implementation of directives and any changes in college and campus policies, rules and regulations in accordance with FERPA, Department of Education and CCPE guidelines.

  • Assist in personnel functions such as interview processes, recommendations to hire, onboarding, new employee orientation and training, retirements and separation processes in cooperation with the appropriate division, the Business Office, and the Human Resources Division

Marginal Functions

  • Perform other related duties within the division / program as assigned.
  • May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions / programs / areas as required.
  • Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedule (hours / days / work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based upon the needs of the College.

Work hours, shifts, days and work locations may vary depending upon the needs of Southeast Community College and subject to modification.

Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in utilizing effective people / leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of modern administrative and management practices.
  • Knowledge of budgeting policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of higher education accreditation process and policies.
  • Ability to interpret and implement campus and College policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty and staff, community representatives, and College and government officials.
  • Knowledge of and experience in recruiting, screening, interviewing, hiring, orienting, supervising, evaluating, and motivating staff.

Skill and ability to interview prospective employees, counsel current employees, and conduct performance evaluations of staff.

  • Knowledge and experience with operating budgets using sound accounting principles for public sector entities. Ability to create and monitor a budget for the purpose of managing, and planning the activities of the Student Success / Student Enrollment divisions.
  • Ability to critically review policies and procedures and to provide input on developing / formulating operative procedures for the division, campus, and College leadership area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of methods and strategies used to motivate employees. Ability to utilize and implement effective motivational approaches to create a congenial / cohesive work force.
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of campus and College programs and services and make recommendations and revisions as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of and skills in facilitating group processes, managing group dynamics, and providing positive leadership. Ability to organize and direct group activities for specific tasks (long range planning, student recruitment, student retention, advising, assessment, etc.).
  • Knowledge of post-secondary Student Success / Student Enrollment practices, procedures, standards and legal requirements.
  • Skills and abilities necessary to maintain a positive environment and level of service for all those who interact with the Student Success / Student Enrollment divisions (including non-traditional students, students with disabilities, racial and ethnic minority students, etc.).
  • Communication skills and abilities necessary to maintain a positive understanding of the role and mission of the Student Success / Student Enrollment divisions.

Ability to demonstrate diplomacy required to resolve misunderstandings and complaints.

  • Knowledge of campus safety and security practices and processes.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Student Success / Student Enrollment functions relating to enrollment, financial aid and student support program and services.
  • Knowledge of and experience in marketing concepts, advertising and public relations, and student publications.
  • Ability to meet the necessary travel requirements of the position.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to provide outstanding customer service in a multi-site / campus environment.
  • Knowledge of and experience in supervising, evaluating, and motivating staff.
  • Knowledge of scheduling, organizing activities, managing people and groups for specific tasks. (strategic planning, budget preparation, and other assigned activities.)
  • Must be able to safely move items weighing fifty (50) pounds from floor level to 36" high on an infrequent basis, and possess mobility within the Business Office and Campus.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions such as movement of wrists, hands, and fingers. Perform physical tasks such as opening, pulling, pushing, reaching, carrying, collating, dialing, filing, and inserting.
  • Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of students, staff, and public. Skill and ability using oral and written business communications.
  • The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Student Services, Business, Management, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Social Services / Work, Human Relations, Mathematics, Psychology, Statistics, or a related field of study.
  • Three (3) years* of full-time professional-level administrative and / or supervisory experience in a secondary or post-secondary educational setting, or in a business / governmental setting that required frequent / considerable expertise with reasonable accommodations, compliance issues, regulatory statutes, and laws.
  • A related Master’s degree in the required fields of study may be substituted for one (1) year of the required work experience. Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Education, Student Services, Financial Aid, Business, Management, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Social Services / Work, Human Relations, Mathematics, Psychology, Statistics, or a directly related field of study.
  • Work experience working directly with college students.
  • Knowledge or experience in policy review, analysis and / or assessment.
  • Experience in student personnel services.
  • Experience in counseling, disability services, retention, veterans services or a related work field, preferably at the post-secondary level.
  • Experience in registration and records in a post-secondary setting.
