JOB PURPOSE :
Work in conjunction with the Director of Athletic Communications to further the publicity and promotion of Lynchburg’s 24 intercollegiate athletics programs.
The person will be responsible for leadership of the department’s digital efforts including streaming of games, new media storytelling, social media, and exploration of new digital platforms to amplify the student-athlete experience at Lynchburg.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
Technology and equipment
Oversee existing equipment maintenance and updates for a variety of streaming components including tricaster, computers, cameras, etc.
Gameday broadcasts
Oversee live webcasts of home athletic events
Provide play-by-play commentary and color analysis
Assign staffing for athletics / special events
Develops relationships with external networks to maximize exposure for Lynchburg team (examples : ESPN3, Lax Sports Network)
Brand and Story amplification
Use new media platforms to highlight student-athlete experience and success
Continue expansion of the reach and scope of athletic communications
Develop relationships with staff, faculty, and student-athletes to better tell the story of the institution and its athletic department
Student and part-time worker leadership
Recruit, train, and retain undergraduate student employees to assist with webcasting, photography, and graphic design
Build relationships with faculty in associated fields (communication studies, sport management, etc.)
Oversee a graduate assistant position and part-time / contract employees on an as-needed basis
Work with students one-on-one to develop career skills
Yearly Responsibilities
Tracking of digital reach and brand exposure of athletics teams
Review of current trends in all NCAA divisions digital efforts and strategic planning to enhance the Lynchburg effort for the following year.

ORAL AND WRITTEN REQUIREMENTS :
Basic English-language oral and written skills for understanding, interpretation and completion of assignments. Effective oral communication skills necessary to provide courteous, responsive service.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
Functions of this position are performed sitting, walking, and standing. Travel is required. A normal schedule requires availability during regular working hours, evenings, weekends and summer.
Much contact with students, families, and the public.
MINIMUM EDUCATION :
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Organize and produce a live webcast for every athletic home event and other special University events (maximize opportunities for live commentary)
Organize and maintain webcasting and other video equipment
Manage a staff of graduate assistants, student employees, and contract workers
Oversee photography coverage of as many home events as possible
Shoot, edit, and produce feature and highlight video content to maximize coverage of athletics programs
Maintain relationships with ESPN and other external networks to broaden Lynchburg athletics’ exposure
Curate the Lynchburg athletics YouTube channel
Curate the video and photo archive on Google Drive
Build relationships with faculty in communications and sport management to enhance the student experience
SECONDARY DUTIES
Assist with execution of the department’s social media strategy
Assist with media relations (particularly video content) as needed
Work with design templates to create graphic elements in Adobe Creative Suite
