Job Summary
The College of Pharmacy welcomed its charter class into the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program in the Fall of 1996. The WesternU College of Pharmacy prepares students in a humanistic, interdisciplinary tradition to become competent, qualified professionals.
Primary Purpose
- Responsible for assisting in the establishment of curriculum, subject matter, and methods of instruction.
- Promote a general atmosphere within the College of respect for knowledge, thought, and inquiry.
- Participate in scheduled meetings of the General Faculty.
- Contribute to the planning, development, and evaluation of courses and academic programs.
- Establish clerkship rotations and serve as preceptor for Pharm.D. students.
- Conduct / participate in pharmacy practice research endeavors.
- Support the organizational goals and objectives of the College of Pharmacy and Western University of Health Sciences.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Expertise in the area of pharmacy practice.
- Ability to communicate effectively with groups and individuals.
- Ability to interact effectively with people of all backgrounds.
- Ability to handle detail-oriented assignments and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to handle a wide range of responsibilities in the college environment.
Required Qualifications
- EDUCATION : Pharm.D. degree, or Ph.D. degree in an appropriate discipline.
- EXPERIENCE : Consistent with current College promotion and tenure documents.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to those individuals possessing experience in teaching and / or research; publications; and presentations.
Work Hours
This is an exempt faculty appointment; work hours are determined by the needs of the mission of the college. Evening and weekend work hours are required as needed.
Local, national, and international travel is required as needed.
Job Duties
Education Responsibilities :
- Maintaining intellectual integrity and striving for academic excellence in teaching.
- Providing students with a syllabus indicating materials to be covered, related assignments, and methods of evaluation.
- Promoting adequate standards of linguistic expression.
- Maintaining up-to-date records of student grades.
- Serving as a block facilitator as assigned.
- Collaborating with block facilitators in planning and conducting evaluations.
- Providing lectures / instruction to Pharm.D. students.
- Contributing to curricular content in collaboration with other faculty members.
- Evaluating student performance using both traditional and non-traditional methods.
- Providing instruction in other WesternU programs.
- Documenting outcomes and appropriateness of all teaching / research activities.
- Developing elective courses in areas of expertise.
