JOB SUMMARY

Under general direction, directs, organizes, and schedules the activities and functions of municipal golf operations at all city-owned and operated golf facilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Direct, organize, and schedule the activities and functions of municipal golf operations at four golf courses accordingly to accommodate a variety of public programs and services, including :
  • General public use.
  • Tournaments.
  • Private lessons.
  • Merchandise sales and food and beverage operations.
  • Direct and monitor grounds maintenance activities of golf courses, which includes but not limited :
  • Performing course inspections to determine the need for redesign of courses.
  • Conducting inspections to identify problems.
  • Initiating appropriate measures to ensure acceptable playing conditions.
  • Develop and monitor an annual budget and monitor and analyze revenues and expenditures to ensure performance targets are met.
  • Manage financial related processes and procedures involving payroll, purchasing, and petty cash transactions.
  • Analyze problems and situations, evaluate courses of action, and develop alternatives, including consequences of proposed alternatives, and reach appropriate solutions.
  • Select, hire, train, direct, motivate, and evaluate full-time and part-time subordinates, set work standards, monitor work progress, effectiveness, and efficiency, and inspect work upon completion.

Assume and perform related customer related services.

  • Effectively direct and manage customer service and facility operations to ensure a safe and appropriate environment for customers and staff including product requirements, process improvements, solving service issues, documenting, and managing customer metric information and developing marketing materials.
  • Use standard software and technology related to business operations and facility maintenance. Examples include Workday, Microsoft Excel, Club Prophet / Proshop Keeper, GPS Visage, etc.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Develop, implement, and review plans for the construction of facilities and golf courses features, as well as the renovation of existing facilities to provide technical assistance and ensure maintenance feasibility.
  • Plan, promote, and control course safety, environmental and conservation programs, and critique construction specifications and blueprints.
  • Develop and oversee the marketing and promotional activities of the golf division, explain, and promote golf to the public, and maintain cooperative planning and working relationships with allied public and voluntary agencies.
  • Assess, monitor, and control course maintenance resource inventory and an inventory of items for retail sales including golf apparel and equipment, and food and beverage items.
  • Solve problems through the use and application of various process improvement tools and methods.
  • Facilitate process teams to develop and recommend improvements. Respond to afterhours calls and work demands.
  • Work effectively with the Golf Advisory Committee for program and operational involvement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of comprehensive golf course maintenance, programming, and management.
  • Knowledge of golf course development and construction.
  • Knowledge of irrigation design, distribution, and practices.
  • Knowledge of plants, insects, diseases, herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides.
  • Knowledge of accounting, revenue tracking procedures, and budget making principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic marketing and promotional strategies for a large revenue generating entity.
  • Skill in analyzing and evaluating policies, procedures, services, and facilities to develop recommendations for improvement.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective communications with the public and staff daily.
  • Skill in selecting, supervising, training, and evaluating subordinate employees.
  • Skill in writing specifications for capital purchases.
  • Skill in contract negotiations, development, and management.
  • Skill in preparing professional level report, memoranda, letters, etc.
  • Skill in planning, organization, monitoring, and evaluating employees' work assignments to accomplish objectives and determining training needs of employees and developing programs.
  • Skill in managing multiple tasks.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical skills, including but not limited to, carrying hearing, speaking, standing, and walking.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including but not limited to, personal PC,

telephone, fax, and copier.

  • Ability to lift or exert forces up to lifting 40 pounds.
  • Ability to operate a motorized vehicle.
  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Qualifying Education and Experience :

A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Parks, Recreation or Leisure Services, Agronomy, or Horticulture, plus 5 years progressiveexperience in the golf industry, with atleast 2 years in a supervisory capacity.

PGA Class A or Golf Course Superintendent certification required preferred.
