Job Description
We are seeking a Desktop Software Engineer to support the National Library of Medicine (NLM). You will be a part of a team supporting NLM's mission to be the nation's primary library supporting biomedical schools across the US.
In this role you will support a critical mission for the public health, working at the prestigious National Institutes of Health main campus.
You will be responsible for preparing, deploying and managing corporate desktop software, manages group policies.
Please Note : Work Visa sponsorship will not be provided for this role and the location is onsite at the Bethesda NIH main campus, some telework is possible.
How will a Desktop Software Engineer make an impact
- Responsible for engineering, building, and creating processes to maintain PC builds.
- Responsible for preparing, deploying, and managing corporate desktop software
- Responsible for managing group policies
- Participating in small team planning and analyzing efforts related to hardware / software deployment.
- Be a key member in evaluating, testing, and introduce new technology and approaches that support the NLM in their desktop technologies to support NLM staff and contractors in their mission.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED
- Education : Associates of Arts / Associates of Science AA / AS (or equivalent)
- Minimum of seven years of related experience
- Minimum of five years troubleshooting, configuring, and administering of Windows systems
- Minimum of five years of software distribution and troubleshooting
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Minimum two years of working experience with Active Directory, Windows Update process
- Must have advanced knowledge of Windows 10 and 11 registry settings, file and folder security, and knowledge of local / domain user security
- A+ Certification
- Client-facing experience
- Minimum two years of working experience with the Symantec Ghost Solution Suite
- Professional working experience with VBScript
- Security Clearance Level : Must be able to obtain a NIH Position of Trust

The likely salary range for this position is $101,566 - $126,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary.
Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
