Summary :
Under general supervision, assists with planning and coordinating a variety of recreation / sports programs, services, and activities for the Ak-Chin Indian Community.
Work involves direct and indirect contact with the public and is usually performed in accordance with specific instruction.
Minimum Qualifications :
Experience equivalent to two years full time work developing, coordinating, or implementing recreation programs / activities ;
OR an Associate’s degree in Recreation, Leisure Activities, or closely related area may substitute for the required experience.
Must possess First Aide / CPR certification, or be able to obtain within 90 days of hire. Must be willing to work evenings and some weekends.
Must possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License and be able to meet the Community’s insurance carrier requirements (no DUI / DWI convictions within the last three years).
Must successfully complete and extensive background check.
Examples of Duties :
- Establishes and maintains positive, effective working relationships with volunteers, other staff, and the public.
- Assists in planning, organizing, leading and coordinating a variety of positive recreation / sports programs, activities, and events to help people stay active, improve fitness and have fun.
- Assists in the development and distribution of promotional materials to increase participation and attendance in recreation / sports programs, activities, events, and facilities.
- Assists in assessing the recreational needs of members in the Community and develops, evaluates, and recommends activities / programs to meet these needs.
- Assists in monitoring programs and activities for members, and ensures a safe / healthy atmosphere for participants. Maintains discipline among program participants.
- Assists in the preparation of periodic reports and data of program activities and status.
- Performs a variety of administrative support activities for the Recreation Program Coordinator.
- Transports participants and acts as chaperone during recreation / sports programs, field trips, special events, and other related functions.
- Works closely with various individuals, groups, agencies, departments, and Community organizations by assisting in coordinating and organizing special and annual Community events and celebrations.
- Assists with the collection of enrollment forms, program and special event registrations in the various recreation / sports programs as required.
- Coaches teams and officiates games as needed.
- Attends training as needed
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Other Requirements :
- Knowledge of general Adult / Youth Recreation programs, services, and activities.
- Knowledge of general Parks and Recreation Department operating policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of general sports / recreation program development principles and practices.
- Knowledge of general clerical / office support practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of basic volunteer training and supervision principles and practices.
- Skill in planning, organizing, and coordinating a variety of recreation / sports programs, activities, and events.
- Skill in performing a variety of clerical / office support work, including typing, filing, photocopying, and inputting data into computerized data bases.
- Ability to chaperone program participants in a safe and structured fashion.
- Ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with staff, other employees and general public in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Ability to understand and follow routine and written instructions.
Classification Status :
This is a non-exempt position.
