About the Job

The College of Education and Human Service Professions and the Department of Education at the University of Minnesota Duluth seek an educator of excellence for a position in Special Education, committed to anti-racist pedagogy and social justice.

This is a tenure track position, either Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank. The salary range for this position will be $50-$80,000, based on experience.

  • The faculty assignment consists of - teaching undergraduate and graduate pre-service or practicing teachers across teacher education programs;
  • supervising student teachers; advising students enrolled in education programs; serving on department, university, and state-wide committees;

and other activities as assigned. Scholarship that advances the field, including research and publication, is required.

Qualifications

Required / Essential Qualifications :

Applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Special Education

  • Doctorate in Education or related field from a regionally accredited university, completed by start of contract.
  • Commitment to working with diverse populations and fostering social justice.
  • A clearly articulated research agenda or scholarly record commensurate to faculty rank sought (Assistant or Associate Professor).

Applicants for the position of Associate Professor must have a distinguished record of academic achievement (scholarly research, teaching, and service) that satisfies the criteria for Associate Professor status in the Department of Education at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Three years of successful teaching in K-12 settings with learners with high-incidence disabilities (Learning Disabilities, Emotional or Behavioral Disorders, Intellectual Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder);
  • A broad background in Special Education preparation;
  • Knowledge of / research in dyslexia;
  • Experience working / researching within an inclusive setting;
  • A commitment to teaching students with disabilities in an inclusive environment;
  • Preparation / training and knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis;
  • Research in Early Childhood to High School Special Education;
  • Experience working with students from ethnically and linguistically diverse populations and evidence of ability to integrate themes impacting social justice into the curriculum;
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities;
  • Strong written communication skills;
  • Teaching experience at the university level;
  • Ability to collaborate and work well with others;
  • Interest in K-12 community partnerships;
  • Experience teaching with technology;
  • Experience teaching online courses;
  • Experience teaching graduate courses;
  • Experience with supervision of students in K-12 school settings;

About the Department

The Department of Education is one of five departments in the College of Education and Human Service Professions and is the home of the Ruth Meyers Center for Indigenous Education.

  • The Department offers 16 undergraduate teaching licensure programs. Licensure offerings include Early Childhood Education (to be launched in 2025);
  • Integrated Elementary and Special Education; Secondary licensure options (Communication Arts and Literature, Earth and Space Science, Health, Life Science, Mathematics, Physical Science, Social Studies);

K-12 Educations (Art, Music, Physical Education, World Languages). Minors include : TESOL / TEFL; Early Childhood; Deaf Studies.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range : $50,000 - $80,000; depending on education / qualifications / experience

Time Appointment : 75%-100% Appointment
