Job Description
Primary Function of the Position
The ideal candidate will have equipment development experience including initial concept development, design reviews, detailed component design / material selection, BOM procurement, tool assembly build, through start up, qualification and production release.
Essential Job Duties
- Conceive, design, and develop new equipment, set-up, qualification, and release of equipment into production.
- Develop documentation for equipment specifications, assembly instructions, maintenance, and calibration procedures.
- Create effective design solutions of mechanical assemblies from simple fixturing to more complex assembly for automation equipment.
- Create protocol documentation for equipment DQ, IQ, OQ, PQ Validation as needed. Additional responsibility in executing and report writing of completed protocol procedures.
- Conduct effective design reviews of new equipment at all stages of development.
- Manage day-to-day equipment issues in a production environment related to breakdowns, improvements, and upgrades.
- Manage or be an effective team member to drive continuous improvement programs relating to equipment performance and reliability, maximize Mean Productive Time Between Failure (MTBF), and Operational Uptime (AOU), and minimize Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).
- Provide technical feedback, influence design and implementation of upgrades to improve reliability and increase production output.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience designing and developing automated manufacturing equipment.
- High Proficiency in mechanical design, CAD (SolidWorks), and working with PDM systems. Demonstrated work in component design, equipment assembly design, and completion of detailed mechanical drawings utilizing GD&T.
- A minimum of three years of equipment management experience with a working knowledge of equipment qualification, calibration and PM procedures and practices.
- Qualify manufacturing equipment to ensure the fulfillment of all requirements.
- Ownership for the design, documentation, qualification, and manufacturing line support of new assembly / test fixtures and automated equipment solutions for manufacturing production.
- Writing of equipment specifications, test protocols, test reports, PMC requirements.
- Hands-on responsibility for the building of equipment and the qualification transfer to manufacturing line requiring execution and support of DQ / IQ / OQ / PQ protocols.
- Hands on manufacturing line support when needed, including the debug, repair and redesign of existing assembly fixtures, automated equipment, and test equipment.
- Ability to recognize opportunities in manufacturing improvement through the use of data collection and analysis to include 6 Sigma, SPC, control chart analysis.
- Onsite work required, position based in Sunnyvale, CA
- 10% Travel expected.
Required Education and Training
BSME Mechanical or Mechatronics engineering with minimum of 4-6 years related experience.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- MSME (or equivalent) with minimum 8 plus years prior experience.
- Prior hands-on Equipment Engineering experience developing and supporting a high-volume automated equipment for manufacturing use.
- Demonstrated personal ownership for the design and build of complete automation work cells.
- Successful design and release of compound motion tooling / linkage elements used for automation assembly and process tasks.
- Proven ability to integrate electronic sensors, motors, and motion control components to perform mechatronic tasks.
- Control cabinet design and layout, electrical schematic creation, and full build. Prior hands on UL508 build experience a plus.
- Knowledge in equipment control systems, PLC
- Prior experience working with PLM systems (Agile preferred), SAP applications, including ECO creation, origination of equipment specification, test protocols, BOM, and work instructions.
- Problem Solving. Rational thinking and root cause analysis capability.
- Prior experience in developing and supporting automating screw drive assembly applications.
- Experience working in a medical device company or other regulated business.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications.

Base Salary Range Region 1 : $143,500 - $206,500
Base Salary Range Region 2 : $122,000 - $175,600
