WORK SCHEDULE : Weekdays 5-7pm and Sundays 12-6pm
SUMMARY
The Youth Basketball Coach, under the supervision of the Athletic Supervisor, is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing practices and games for their assigned team.
Practices will be held on weekdays between 5-6 : 30pm and games on Sundays between between 12 : 30-5 : 30pm at local Crystal Lake High Schools.
Hours and days may vary based on the basketball league schedule and school availability.
QUALIFICATIONS
A youth basketball coach is responsible for teaching school-aged children the fundamentals of basketball while providing proper guidance and support for each participant.
Teaching experience is helpful, but not required. Must be at least 16 years old.
A youth basketball coach must possess enthusiasm, creativity, and the ability to communicate with people of all ages.
This individual must be able to get participants excited about being a part of the class.
A youth basketball coach should be flexible, willing to try new ideas and classes, be motivated, and be consistently punctual.
Must be organized and punctual.
Demonstrate behavioral flexibility, good public relations and tactfulness. Patience is also a character trait that is important when working with the public.
Ability to cooperate with and interpret Park District philosophies in relation to governmental, public and private groups and agencies and the general public
Ability to work harmoniously with fellow employees, patrons, community groups and other units of local government
Ability to work independently day-to-day operations with general direction from immediate supervisor
Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work
Ability to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Develops and implements lessons supporting the established basketball curriculum.
Adhere to and enforce all facility and league rules.
Educate players the rules of the game.
Be prompt for all games.
Actively engages all participants and provides support and constructive feedback
Arrives before practices and games to inspect instruction space, set-up equipment and supplies
Ensure practices and games are started and ended on schedule.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of School and Park District facilities.
Accurately completes and submits accident reports for all injuries and incident reports as needed.
Communicate effectively with participants, guardians, supervisors, and the general public.
Report any safety or health hazards immediately to the Athletic Supervisor or the Safety Coordinator.
Wears issued Crystal Lake Park District apparel at all times when on duty.
Encourage participants / guardians to complete a Program Evaluation to ensure quality programs and coaches at the Park District.
Act as positive role model for participants during practices and games.
Submit all attendance sheets and Program Evaluations to the Athletic Supervisor at the end of season.
Attend any training sessions offered to develop relevant knowledge and skills.
Perform the job safely and in compliance with District policies, procedures, work and safety rules, and the employee policy manual.

Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
Responds to citizen’s complaints and suggestions.
Communication of personnel matters to Athletic Supervisor as necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS
Must be able to perform manual labor with varying degrees of physical exertion

May frequently be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
Must be able to handle average to heavy weight materials, maximum weight 50 pounds. Over 50 pounds with assistance.
May be in awkward or difficult positions resulting in physical fatigue
Must have specific vision abilities required for this job : close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Prolonged stress and pressures of the position could affect some individual’s blood pressure
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
Occasionally exposed to elevated noise levels from participants, sound equipment, maintenance equipment and / or power tools.
May be exposed to dust, pollens, molds, insects etc. may be present. May be exposed to varied weather conditions when classes are held in the outdoors.
