About the Role :
Reporting to the Senior Vice President Chief Supply Chain Officer, the Senior Director Last Mile Transportation provides essential leadership for the store delivery elements that support our growing retail grocery distribution service model.
This role will oversee and manage the final stage of the delivery process across multiple locations, ensuring efficient and timely delivery of goods or services to Grocery Outlet stores.
Responsibilities Include :
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize last-mile delivery operations, including route planning, vehicle utilization, and delivery scheduling.
- Continuously evaluate and improve last-mile delivery processes to enhance efficiency, improve on-time delivery execution and consistency, and minimize costs.
- Monitor and remedy key performance indicators (KPIs) related to last-mile delivery, such as; cost per case, cost per mile, weighted average distance, cost per delivery / load, on-time delivery rates, empty miles as % of total miles, optimal load cube and weight, and customer satisfaction.
- Develop and manage budgets for last-mile delivery operations, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement strategies to optimize expenses while maintaining service quality.
- Identify and implement innovative technologies and tools to streamline last-mile delivery operations, such as route optimization software, GPS tracking systems, and delivery management platforms.
- Collaborate with third-party logistics providers, carriers, and delivery partners to ensure seamless coordination and execution of last-mile delivery operations.
- Lead and motivate a team of transportation managers, driver supervisors, dispatchers, routing planning and support staff to achieve operational excellence and deliver exceptional customer service.
- Work to address customer concerns and feedback related to last-mile delivery and implement solutions to enhance the overall customer experience.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and safety standards governing last-mile delivery operations, including driver safety training, vehicle maintenance, and adherence to traffic laws.
- Identify and manage potential risks and challenges in last-mile delivery operations and develop contingency plans to mitigate disruptions and ensure continuity of service.
About The Pay :
- Base Salary Range : $160,000 - $185,000 Annually

About You :
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- 7 years of experience in a leadership role overseeing last-mile delivery operations, preferably in the logistics, e-commerce, or retail industry.
Multi-temperature transportation experience will be preferred.
- Proficiency in logistics software and tools, such as route optimization software, transportation management systems (TMS), and fleet visibility software solutions.
- Advanced MS Office skills.
- Deep understanding of logistics and supply chain management principles, with expertise in last-mile delivery strategies and supply chain business practices and concepts that impact the success and profitability of the organization.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data to drive decision-making and performance improvement, particularly in the areas of consumer issue research, de-escalation, and cost-effective solution identification.
- Demonstrate leadership abilities, with a track record of effectively managing teams and driving results in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to develop innovative solutions.
- Advanced business writing and oral skills in English.
