We are seeking a Standardized Patient (SP) Program Coordinator who plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of simulation-based educational events using SPs and Physical Exam Teaching Associates (PETAs).

This position is responsible for orchestrating the recruitment, training, and supervision of SPs and PETAs at the School of Nursing Center for Simulation & Immersive Learning, while upholding simulation standards of best practice.

The coordinator will work closely with and works closely with the Johns Hopkins Medicine Simulation Center and faculty, learners, staff, and external stakeholders to manage all SP-related activities.

This role includes administrative, and facility support for the simulation center. This is a hybrid position (minimum of 3 days on site and 2 dates remote).

Must be on site for all in-person standardized patient events.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Program Coordination - SP / TA Program

  • Serves as the primary contact for the SP / TA Program casual employees.
  • Maintains knowledge of HR personnel practices and organizational policies, including compensation, training, and recruitment.
  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, and manages day-to-day SP simulation course activities.
  • Manages all SP simulation activities including scheduling, recruiting, training, development of SP educational materials, and evaluation of SP performance.
  • Oversees mobile and virtual simulations and ensures appropriate preparation, clean-up, and logistical arrangements for SP events.
  • Utilizes Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice and ASPE Standards during all simulation activities.
  • In collaboration with simulation educators, develops and maintains onboarding materials and training opportunities for SPs and TAs.
  • Tracks and manages project materials, project reminders, budget, and cost entries into the database.
  • Supervises standardized patients and monitors their tasks, responsibilities, and performance quality.

Administrative & Facility Support - Simulation Center

  • Works with the Associate Director of Simulation Education & the Associate Dean for Simulation & Immersive Learning to develop and maintain the SP / TA program budget.
  • Prepares quarterly reports and tracks program progress.
  • Serves as a backup for other coordinators, educators, and simulation operations specialists, and assists with planning and logistics for special events, workshops, and conferences.

Recruitment, Training, and Quality Control

  • Recruits and supervises standardized patients.
  • Coordinates with faculty standardized patient training and provides appropriate documents for activities.
  • Ensures quality control in the authenticity of SP portrayals and accuracy of cases.
  • Schedules training sessions, maintains training materials, and monitors the performance of SPs and monitors to maintain high educational standards.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Collaborates with clients, faculty, supervisors, and stakeholders to ensure alignment of SP case scenarios with educational objectives.
  • Communicates project details, requirements, and updates through clear verbal and written documentation.
  • Works with faculty to ensure the inclusion of diverse and representative characters in simulations, including non-binary and transgender individuals.

Technical Proficiency & Project Logistics

  • Demonstrates technical proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database systems like Simulation IQ.
  • Supports the logistics of SP projects, including coordinating materials, managing AV equipment, and organizing project spaces for optimal performance.

Specialized Responsibilities

  • Applies moulage to actors as required by simulation scenarios.
  • Implements strategies to automate the system for script creation and reminders for casting.
  • Ensures diversity and inclusivity in simulation scripts and roles.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of college required, or a minimum of 3 years' work experience in field of Standardized Patient methodology.
  • Experience in training and supervising SP's and / or participation in the development of SP programs is preferred.
  • Additional education may be substitute for some experience, especially in the field of Education, Health professions or Creative Arts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) credentials.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with standardized patients for healthcare education.
  • Experience with simulation education and familiarity with ASPE standards.
  • Experience working with casual employees or actors.
  • Knowledge of medical interviewing, theatrical training, or organizational management is desirable.
