Job Description

What is the Opportunity? This role is part of the U.S. Risk Office and will be responsible for directing and managing the risk reporting to the RBC US Group Holdings LLC (RIHC) Board and its Committees, and the governance of RBC’s Combined U.

S. Operations (CUSO) Risk Management Committee, chaired by the U.S. Chief Risk Officer. The Director will play a critical role in ensuring CUSO’s risk reporting and the governance of CUSO RMC is in accordance with regulatory expectations, industry best practices and leading trends in governance practices. What will you do?

  • Directs and manages all aspects of CUSO RMC and board-related activities involving GRM, including : the agenda for, frequency of, and preparation for committee meetings;
  • the quality, quantity and timeliness of the information that goes to the committee, including ensuring presentation guidelines are met;
  • the time is sufficiently allocated during committee meetings for effective discussion of agenda items and key issues and concerns;

andthe mandate and the effectiveness of each committees is assessed, and improvements are implemented as required.

  • Manages the CUSO risk management committee structure; ensuring appropriate governance over updates
  • Ensures escalation procedures and governance practices of CUSO’s risk management committees are consistent and in line with regulatory expectations and best practices
  • Builds strong relationships with risk counterparts including RBC Enterprise, CUSO and RIHC legal entities, promoting alignment and consistency in risk reporting and governance.
  • Keeps abreast of regulatory developments, industry best practices and leading trends in governance practices.
  • Responds to regulatory, Internal Audit and external survey requests as required (e.g. Federal Reserve, OCC, DTCC etc.)
  • Manage 2 FTEs mentorship of junior members across the GRM platform.Set goals, prioritize deliverables and assess performance across the departmentCreate development plans for staff to broaden their knowledge base across processes, risk disciplines and regulatory requirements

What do you need to succeed?

Strong organizational awareness, preferably with solid knowledge of risk management and / or governance standards & processes (management and / or board level);

minimum 10 years of relevant experience.

  • Bachelor’s Degree (in Accounting, Economics, Finance, or other Business related field)
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills; requires frequent contacts with senior executives.
  • Drive best-in-class execution, with a proactive and committed focus on quality, accuracy and timeliness; exceptional attention to details.
  • Solution-focused mindset with an ability to make logical or implied connections from a vast array of information.
  • Ability to develop and / or maintain relationships across multiple stakeholder groups, including RBC senior management.
  • Ability to manage well under pressure and tight deadlines; works well with changing priorities in a dynamic small team environment.
  • Ability to improve processes to drive greater efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Team player; ability to successfully partner with colleagues across departments and / or divisions
  • Ability to effectively communicate to stakeholders of varying levels, including under contentious circumstances
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills required
  • Ability to be flexible and follow tight deadlines
  • High level of professionalism, self-motivation, and sense of urgency

  • The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $160,000 - $250,000 (NJ) depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate’s experience, skills, registration status;
  • market conditions; and business needs. This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions;
