The Project Coordinator will play a pivotal role in overseeing the fiber installation projects across Virginia. This position focuses on outside plant (OSP) work, including both aerial and underground fiber installations, as part of the client’s market expansion initiative.
You will be responsible for daily field supervision, ensuring projects meet the construction and safety standards. These projects will involve 30 50-mile fiber builds across several months or years, delivering high-speed internet services to previously underserved areas.
This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of expanding of the Client’s fiber network, helping to connect communities that currently have no access to high-speed internet.
As a Construction Coordinator, you will oversee multi-year, high-impact projects, managing fiber installations that directly improve broadband access in unserved regions.
This role allows you to make a meaningful difference in connecting communities and contribute to Client’s leadership in fiber network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities :
- Field Supervision (80%) :
- Oversee daily fiber installation operations.
- Supervise field crews and contractors to ensure that both aerial and underground fiber installations.
- Resolve in-field challenges such as rerouting fiber paths, handling power violations, and overcoming underground obstacles.
- Conduct regular quality control (QC) inspections, ensuring fiber depth accuracy and compliance with safety standards.
- Ensure production goals are met, targeting fiber installations of 500-1,000 feet per day depending on terrain and conditions.
- Project Management (20%) :
- Utilize Client’s project management software, P2 (transitioning to Sphere), to document project progress, update maps, and manage workflow.
- Coordinate with local utilities and manage the make-ready process and permitting for aerial fiber installations.
- Participate in daily / weekly project update calls, adjusting plans as needed based on field conditions.
- Handle invoicing and finalize as-builts at the completion of each project phase.
Core Skills & Experience :
- Field Decision-Making & Problem Solving :
- Ability to assess construction sites and make informed, real-time decisions regarding fiber rerouting and addressing obstacles like power violations or underground issues.
- Project Management & Vendor Coordination :
- Proven experience managing fiber installation projects from start to finish, including vendor coordination, handling permits, and overseeing the make-ready process.
- Ability to manage multiple crews, vendors, and project timelines while ensuring adherence to Client’s standards and safety regulations.
- Technical Expertise in Fiber Construction :
- Strong knowledge of both aerial and underground fiber installations, reading and interpreting fiber prints and matrices, and performing in-field QC checks.
- Proficiency in reading fiber prints, understanding fiber matrices, and ensuring accurate and compliant fiber installations through QC checks.
