Shipyard Laborer
Job Description
- Assists in the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of cable systems.
- Ensures techniques, materials, and accomplishments meet technical standards and specifications and engineering directives.
- Operates hand and power tools of all types : air hammers, measuring tools, and a variety of other equipment and instruments.
- Cleans and prepares sites, cleans up rubble and debris, and removes materials for work.
- Assists other trade workers as needed.
- Laborers load and unload equipment and carry materials to skilled workers.
- Removes paint and scale from ships’ metal surfaces, using hand or powered wire brushes.
- Conveys materials and tools to work site.
- Loads vehicles using hand truck or dolly.
- Washes trucks and other vehicles.
- Cleans ships, piers, drydocks, and other working areas, using broom and water hose.
- Opens shipping crates, using hammer and pinch bar.
