DATA AND RESEARCH ANALYST

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

SCORE seeks a data-driven and results-oriented professional to join the research and innovation team as a Data and Research Analyst.

This role will support efforts to analyze trends, identify gaps, and visualize data to communicate key insights with SCORE’s diverse audience.

The Data and Research Analyst will play a critical role in advancing the organization’s work by contributing relevant data and research expertise to projects across the K-12 to workforce continuum.

This position reports to the Director of Data.

At the State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE), our mission is to catalyze transformative change in Tennessee education so that all students can achieve success.

SCORE is an independent, nonprofit, and nonpartisan institution founded in 2009 by Sen. Bill Frist, M.D., former U.S. Senate Majority Leader.

Striving to be a durable partner and trusted advisor on Tennessee education, SCORE is focused on advancing change for students from kindergarten to career through policy and practice and taking it to scale.

SCORE has three goals that guide the organization’s work to drive success for all students in Tennessee :

  • All students receive an excellent public K-12 education.
  • All students earn a credential or postsecondary degree of value that prepares them for a career enabling economic independence.
  • Economically disadvantaged students, students of color, and rural students see improved success across all goals relative to their peers.

SCORE is based at 1801 West End Ave. in downtown Nashville. This role is eligible for hybrid work with the expectation of at least 20 hours per week across at least three days in the office and the balance of time at the team member’s choosing unless otherwise notified by their manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Compile and analyze data to support SCORE’s policy, strategic practice, and advocacy agenda
  • Ensure that data are collected efficiently and effectively, as well as acquired from secondary sources with attention to data security
  • Translate data to generate highly visual and user-friendly data reports for public dissemination to a diverse set of stakeholders
  • Track and analyze data released by state and national partners to identify areas in need of improved data quality and transparency
  • Conduct regular reviews of emerging research across the education-to-work continuum to identify trends that could benefit Tennessee and source ideas for system improvement
  • Support the design and development of research projects, reports, and initiatives to advance SCORE’s strategic priorities

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Understanding of the education field and education policy, including a strong working knowledge of education research trends, methods, and sources
  • Knowledge of national and Tennessee education landscape is preferred
  • Experience analyzing and visualizing data including experience with large datasets with a focus on translating complex datasets into highly accessible visualizations and / or dashboards

o Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required

o Experience with other analytics programs or dashboarding software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, etc.) is ideal

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Nimble and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment that may require quick turnarounds on data analysis
  • Ability to problem solve in the moment and proactively consult and collaborate with other team members as appropriate
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills to move projects forward and clearly communicate both internally with team members, as well as with outside stakeholders
  • Passion for SCORE’s mission to catalyze transformative change in Tennessee education so that all students can achieve success
