The Academic Success Center Coordinator oversees the services and daily operations of the Academic Success Center (ASC).

This position will fill half of the day serving academic success with tutoring, peer mentoring, and facilitated study times.

The other half of the day will be serving the TRIO Student Support Services office. This is a Temporary, Full Time Position until April 30, 2025

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Experience in a TRIO program encouraged.
  • Experience with educational tutoring, advising, or grant based student support roles preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Willingness to learn new programs as needed.
  • Willingness to acquire knowledge about various learning disabilities and gain experience in providing services for such disabilities.
  • As a Hispanic serving institution, bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to build rapport and sustain relationships with students.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to coach students on study skills, time management, career paths and financial literacy concepts
  • Practices for promoting student engagement and connection to the college.
  • Computer skills and technical ability to use a database management system, create publications
  • Knowledge of best practices for working in a diverse and multicultural community, and for promoting student equity and inclusion.
  • Experience and comfort working with diverse student populations, including but not limited to first generation students, low-income students and students with disabilities.
  • Ability to implement student orientations, activities, workshops and events.
  • Ability to effectively convey the objectives of the program and to recruit eligible student participants.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Demonstrated passion for student success, and a commitment to Simpson University's mission and purpose.

This position is partially funded with one time grant money and is full time until April30, 2025. It is an excellent opportunity to gain experience within Simpson University and those who show excellent work product will be recommended for open positions when this closes.

Essential TRIO Functions :

TRIO Student Support Services is a federally funded program that provides supportive services to underrepresented students pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

Students participating in the TRIO program are either low-income students or first-generation college students meaning their parents do not have bachelor’s degrees.

The TRIO program is seeking a part-time, full-time advisor to work with students who are struggling with coursework, falling behind in school or need the extra support to stay on top of their coursework.

Under the supervision of the TRIO Director, the TRIO Advisor’s duties are as follows :

  • Monitoring TRIO student’s academic progress including the on-time submission of class assignments, grades, course completion and progress towards a major
  • Working with students to develop time management skills
  • Reviewing student assignments for accuracy especially in college writing courses
  • Advising students on internships & jobs including Resumes and Cover Letters
  • Working with the Registrar's office to identify students who are on academic status
  • Collaborating with faculty and staff to facilitate support services including making appropriate referrals to Academic Success Center
  • Planning / Leading workshops, small groups and other academic events for students
  • Mentoring students - Listening to students, asking questions and finding out what’s going on in their lives and providing wise, God centered advise
  • General office admin work including data entry, database management, filing paperwork, keeping detailed records, answering phones, sending emails and text, scheduling appointments, etc.
  • Utilize a database management system to track student contacts and assist with program management.
  • Promote student involvement in college activities and student organizations.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work is required
  • Create orientations and workshops for participants as appropriate
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions for Student Success :

  • Oversee the academic support program for all students.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with faculty and staff.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Associate Dean of Student Success and Retention surrounding student concerns.
  • Responsible for scheduling and proctoring exams for students.
  • Schedule appointments and meetings for ASC staff.
  • Promote good study skills through marketing and presenting workshops and offering resources on topics such as : organization skills, time management, test preparation, study skills, test anxiety, etc.
  • Oversee record keeping of all aspects of the tutoring program; maintain student files, records, and databases; and collect assessment information for data collection and reports.
  • Partner with the Associate Dean of Student Success and Retention and faculty in developing vocational readiness programming to support students.
  • Collaborate with other student support services (i.e., TRIO, library, etc.) to holistically support students.
