Position Summary :
A Grant Accountant position oversees the financialadministration of grants and contracts from award setup through award closeoutand ensures compliance with all Federal, State, University and sponsorpolicies, procedures, and guidelines.
This position works closely with thefinancial and administrative units throughout the university. In addition, thesenior grant accountant provides training to new hires in the Office ofResearch and routinely contributes by providing presentations and training tocurrent staff, both within the Office of Research and to other units as needed.
Essential Functions :
Approve all sponsored transactions in accordance withthe award terms and conditions, uniform guidance, and institutional policy.
Transactions include the procurement of equipment, payroll expenses, andgraduate student assistant nomination forms, sub-award budgeting, and travelexpenses.
Approval includes verification of available budget and correct objectcodes.
- Provide training to Office of Research staff and other units onfinancial compliance issues related to sponsored research on a routine basis.
- Train new employees in post-award management on NJIT policies, procedures andsystems.
- Prepare and submit interim and final financial reports for sponsors,including cost share reports. Preparation of sponsor financial reports includesanalysis of budgets, expenditures, encumbrances, and receivables.
- Verifyaccuracy of award setup, modifications, and budget information in Banner,including funding source, rates, and billing information requirements.
- Resolve accounting issues including project over runs and accelerated spending.
- Track, manage, and validate cost share commitments are being met.
- Prepareawards for closeout in accordance with the sponsor terms and conditions.
- Provide training and guidance on compliance related matters to the researchcommunity.
- Provide support for various audit activities involving sponsoredawards.
- Other Job Duties : Work on special projects as requested and performother related duties as assigned.
Prerequisite Qualifications :
- Atleast 2 years of experience in post-award research administration and / or grantaccounting.
- A bachelor's degree in business, research administration, orrelated field.
- Excellent qualitative and quantitative skills.
- Experience ina college or university, or other not-for-profit institution performing similarjob functions.
- Ability to interact professionally with all levels ofuniversity personnel as well as external constituencies.
- Excellentinterpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Wordand Excel (i.e. pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.) or similar programs.
- Demonstrated success in a position managing concurrent, high-volume number ofrequests while providing superior customer service.
- Extensive knowledge ofUniform Guidance, effort reporting, cost sharing, and overhead rates *Dedicated, high-integrity professional and team player.
- Atthe university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may beexempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of theuniversity, an equivalent combination of education and experience specificallypreparing the candidate for success in the position.
Preferred Qualifications :
- More than 3 years of experience in post-award researchadministration and / or grant accounting.
- Professional certification in research administration (e.g. CRA or CFRA).
