Summary :
All pharmacy technicians work under the direction ofClinical Pharmacists to provide pharmacy services with compassion,excellence, and efficiency.
Responsibilities :
- Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUSCompetencies : Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader ofLeaders.
- Must be 18 years or older
Operational Duties andResponsibilities
- Pharmacy Techniciansperform ONLY non-judgmental technical duties under the directsupervision of a pharmacist.
- Prepares drug orders perphysician request according to established policies, procedures,and protocols - Verifies computerized patient medication recordsaccurately.
Maintains, accurate, complete patient drug record.Compounds non-sterile pharmaceuticals. Provides servicesefficiently and in a timely fashion.
- Issuescontrolled substances to patient care areas and maintains recordsas required by law and institutional policies.
- Verifies the daily activities of the department are complete andrecorded.
- Maintains competency required for currentjob title / position
- Maintains current technicianlicense. Ensures applicable CE records and licensure are maintainedin department files. Attends staff meetings.
- Completes all competency / skills assessment requirements.
- Specialty area - Serves as the technician in specialty areassuch as the operating room or pharmacy work areas outside thecentral pharmacy.
- Ambulatory care - Providesambulatory pharmaceutical care services as assigned such as but notlimited to anticoagulation clinics, intensive medical home,transition of care, Discharge Medication reconciliation, etc.
- Retail - Performs outpatient distributive functions relatedto entering prescriptions orders, selecting the correct medicationsfor new and refilled prescription orders, and coordinates deliveryof medications for patient pick-up or delivery.
Clinical Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures safe, appropriate, cost-effective drug therapies forpatients according to established policies, procedures, andprotocols.
- Reads, extracts, and interpretsinformation in patient medical records accurately.
- Detects and reports suspected adverse drug reactions accurately andin a timely manner.
- Coordinates pharmacist drugeducation to patients and their families per institutionalprotocol.
- Participates in the quality improvement andmedication use review activities of the department. Collects data,conducts monitors and inspections, and maintains logs, records andother documentation as assigned.
- Provides servicesefficiently and in a timely fashion
Occupational Hazards
- Potentialfor exposure to hazardous and toxic substances (includingchemotherapeutic, cytotoxic drugs and cleaning solutions), sticksor cuts by needles and other sharp items.
- Risk 0exposure category.
- Potential for musculoskeletalinjuries if proper lifting and carrying techniques are notused.
- Potential exposure to biologic material whenparticipating in direct patient care activities (e. g., patienteducation, code attendance).

Experience
Pharmacy experience preferred
