The Controller is responsible for the overall integrity of the financial statement and all related accounting processes.

Has direct oversight of general ledger accounting, accounts payable, payroll, financial reporting, and audits for all Woman’s Hospital entities, including clinics, joint ventures, and the Foundation for Woman’s.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Master’s degree or CPA strongly preferred.
  • Five years of accounting experience and two years of supervisory experience in healthcare accounting or auditing OR Two years of prior Controller experience outside the healthcare industry with seven years of accounting experience.

Responsibilities :

  • Develops and monitors organization-wide financial policies including revenue recognition, expenditure of funds, and custody and conservation of assets.
  • Oversees monthly financial close process ensuring accurate accounting, appropriate estimates, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Reviews, interprets and analyzes financial and statistical data for Management. Provides logical explanations for monthly, quarterly, and annual variances in general ledger accounts and statistics.
  • Produces financial statements and related presentations for the Board, Board Committees, and Management
  • Coordinates with Financial Analytics / Decision Support in the development of the System operating and capital budgets including formulation of and recommendations of key assumptions.

Provides departmental education and assistance as necessary.

  • Coordinates with Financial Analytics / Decision Support on the cost accounting function to include assisting with reconciling data between systems.
  • Coordinates data gathering and reporting for Bond rating agency annual reviews.
  • Coordinates with tax accounting firm in the preparation of the Form for all entities. Provides for accurate and timely gathering of information for schedules.

Works with leaders throughout organization for narrative and other information needed.

Oversees year-end audits by Public Accounting firm and third-party auditors ensuring cooperation, timeliness, and accurate exchange information.

Works through any issues encountered to bring to acceptable resolution.

  • Oversees grant accounting, financial grant compliance, and any related single audits.
  • Oversees preparation of annual Medicare cost reports and other data requests from third party payors. Works with consultants to proactively identify opportunities to maximize reporting on the Medicare cost reports.
  • Understands reimbursement models of payors and ensures revenue recognition including accounts receivables reserves and contractuals flowing through the income statement are accurately stated.
  • Keeps current on Louisiana supplemental payment programs and appropriate related accounting.
  • Participates in the timely and accurate production of financial statements and information for all joint ventures, shared services, and the Foundation for Woman’s.
  • Monitors and schedules financial payments of significant physician contracts.
  • Evaluates, recommends, and implements technology based on efficiencies and return on investment for the department.
  • Consistently seeks out process improvement opportunities utilizing project management tools as appropriate.
  • Develops key performance indicators (KPIs) for the department and holds self accountable for outcomes and results.
  • Ensures the accurate and timely processing of the accounts payable and payroll functions.
  • Oversees payroll tax withholding, remittances, and any related tax filings.
  • Stays current on FASB non-profit accounting standards and ensures implementation of new promulgations.
  • Actively participates in on-going industry education.
  • Seeks improvement opportunities within all areas of responsibility. Presents ideas and potential initiatives in a clear concise way.

Provides a full assessment of the benefits and risks.

  • Is customer focused, creating an atmosphere of clear communication, prompt responsiveness, and support.
  • Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Provides active development and mentoring of staff.
  • Approves payroll and is responsible for accurate payment of employees, including other management positions.
  • Assures meeting / exceeding of the Woman’s mission and vision, and departmental goals.
