This position is at the Phoenix College Main Campus with some remote work availability.
The MESA Center is Open M-T 8am - 6pm and Friday 8am - 4pm. The ideal candidate will have availability Monday - Thursday from 1-6pm .
There is occasional need to support events outside of this time.
Up to hours a week.

Job Summary
The MESA Academic Excellence Workshop (AEW) Facilitator will support objectives pertaining to the Phoenix College MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) Transfer Prep Program for the Title V grant-funded period, which is focused on increasing the number of under-represented students interested in and pursuing a STEM discipline.
As an AEW Facilitator, the candidate will lead interactive workshop sessions, collaborate with course instructors, and build community among participants.
Responsibilities include preparing for sessions, setting a positive tone, and assuming responsibility for student achievement.
The facilitator will identify areas of student difficulty, maintain accurate attendance records, prepare worksheets, and promote effective communication.
Additionally, they will assist with finals preparation, evaluate AEW progress, and encourage ongoing participation. This role requires effective communication, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to student success.
Essential Functions
Required Communications
Meet regularly with the MESA Staff
Communicate weekly with assigned Mathematics Department Faculty on workshop concepts
Meet monthly with the MESA program team (MESA Advisor, Title V Director, Mesa Program Assistant and Faculty Advisor)
Program Management
Contact participants
Consult with course instructor
Collect pertinent reference / resources
Provide ongoing evaluation of the MESA AEW program and recommend steps to improve it.
Coordination
Assume responsibility for student achievement and for developing a motivating atmosphere in AEW
Identify areas of student difficulty / course emphasis
Learn exam and quiz schedule
Discuss participant’s area(s) of difficulty
Integrate review material with new material
Stretch student capabilities
Promote sense of community and encourage effective communication
Identify student strengths and areas of needed improvement, and encourage mutual
assistance through appropriate grouping
Be sensitive to student problems and refer to appropriate resource for assistance
Keep accurate student attendance records
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree and one year of related work experience
- High level of skill and competency in college level math including but not limited to : college algebra, precalculus, calculus, and differential equations
Desired Qualifications
- Pursuing or completion of a Graduate degree in a STEM discipline / field
- Experience working with college students
- Experience in facilitating group workshops and learning communities
