Electrical Technician
Job Description
This position performs electrical, instrumentation, and controls, process, and production maintenance throughout the facility.
The Electrical Technician's responsibilities include equipment breakdowns, installation and startups, process improvements, preventative / precision maintenance programs, and continuous improvement activities such as increasing machine reliability and the installation of facility capital investments.
The candidate will perform specified electrical work according to code regulations. Alternative job titles for this role may include Industrial Electrician, Multi-craft Technician, or Electronics Technician.
Responsibilities
- Respond efficiently and effectively to urgent production needs related to equipment.
- Complete preventative, predictive, and reactive industrial IE&C work throughout the facility.
- Utilize CMMS to support the maintenance function, including review, execution, and documentation of scheduled / unscheduled work daily.
- Understand NEC code to a journeyman level and demonstrate accordingly.
- Install conduit and wiring layout, and repair existing electrical systems.
- Build and / or modify control panels to a professional level.
- Understand and interpret mechanical and / or electrical schematics and blueprints, including equipment-specific electronics diagrams, and 'red line' changes for engineering.
- Install, maintain, test, evaluate, and repair various electrical components and systems, including medium voltage automation systems and motor control circuits.
- Manage power distribution, MMC’s, control panels, and switches / fuses.
- Resolve hardware issues with PLCs, automation software, and touchscreens.
- Get online with a PLC and / or HMI to review logic and troubleshoot issues.
- Troubleshoot, replace, and program VFD’s and HIM modules.
- Use appropriate tools (., multimeter) to troubleshoot and diagnose the root cause of electrical, electronics, and instrumentation issues.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues for rotating equipment and manage hydraulic and pneumatic applications.
- Use mechanical tools, hand tools, and power tools.
- Handle utilities equipment and electrical requirements.
- Understand and use precision measurement equipment / tools.
- Manage security and alarm systems.
- Understand ARC flash / blast and use / follow PPE and specialty tool policies.
- Participate in root cause failure analysis for equipment failures.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing at all levels and train others.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.
- Maintain sanitary conditions, ensuring product quality, and follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Ensure all policies, procedures, and activities related to Food Safety and Quality are followed and complied with.
Essential Skills
- Proficient knowledge and ability in installing, maintaining, testing, evaluating, and repairing various electrical components and systems, including medium voltage automation systems and motor control circuits.
- Proficient knowledge of power distribution, MMC’s, control panels, and switches / fuses.
- Proficient knowledge related to hardware issues with PLCs (programmable logic controllers), automation software, and touchscreens.
- Basic knowledge and ability to get online with a PLC and / or HMI to review logic and troubleshoot issues.
- Proficient ability to troubleshoot, replace, and program VFD’s and HIM modules.
- Proficient ability to use tools like a multimeter to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical, electronics, and instrumentation issues.

Work Environment
The facility is a food production environment where potatoes are processed into mashed potatoes, diced potatoes, and hash browns.
While certain areas can be dirty and wet, the facility is generally clean. This is a non-union role with four different teams, each consisting of five mechanics.
The teams work in rotating 12-hour shifts : A and B shifts are during the day, and C and D shifts are during the night (6 pm - 6 am) on a rotating sequence : 3 days on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off, 2 on, 2 off, and repeat. A uniform will be provided.
