As a Water Quality Technician, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and monitoring water quality, responding to customer inquiries, and supporting various water quality initiatives.

Title : Water Quality Technician

Rate : $18 / hr - $26 / hr depending on experience

Location : Silver Spring, MD

Hours : Monday - Friday, 8.5-hour shifts starting as early as 6 / 6 : 30 AM

Duration : Long-term contract with potential for permanent placement based on performance

Key Responsibilities :

  • Customer Interaction : Handle customer complaints and coordinate sampling logistics. Communicate directly with customers to investigate and schedule services.
  • Water Quality Studies : Assist with special studies, including full, pilot, and bench-scale tests to solve or evaluate water quality issues.
  • Equipment Maintenance : Operate and maintain field analytical equipment, conduct routine services, and perform minor repairs to ensure all monitoring equipment is in top condition.
  • Monitoring Systems : Maintain and operate online water quality monitoring systems for contaminant detection, ensuring they are always in good operational condition.

Qualifications :

  • Customer Service : Excellent ability to interact with customers professionally and effectively, delivering superior customer service.
  • Technical Knowledge : Strong understanding of drinking water treatment processes, water distribution systems, water quality monitoring, and emergency response.
  • Data Interpretation : Ability to interpret water quality data and identify anomalies.
  • Laboratory Skills : Knowledge of proper laboratory procedures, good laboratory practices (GLP), and environmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Safety Awareness : Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets, safety manuals, and emergency procedures. Ability to use and maintain personal protective equipment appropriately.
  • Technical Proficiency : Skilled in using laboratory computer programs, spreadsheet, and database tools for computational work.

Proficient in operating analytical instrumentation, including routine maintenance and minor repairs.

  • Record Keeping : Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records and prepare comprehensive analytical reports.
  • Testing Expertise : Competence in performing chemical, bacteriological, or biological tests accurately.

Minimum Education and Experience :

  • Education : Bachelor’s degree in environmental science / engineering, chemistry, biology, or related scientific fields.
  • Experience : Experience in drinking water monitoring, customer correspondence related to water supply and treatment / distribution system operation, and environmental laboratory analyses, including wet chemistry and microbiology testing.
