PositionOverview :
This will bea Requirements Engineer for the Rail Infrastructure (RI) R&D team in thedomain of large, complex back-office software systems.
The position involves specifying, managing,and communicating the technical requirements for several large back-officesoftware systems (such as a dispatching system and movement planner).
What yourday-to-day will look like :
- Developsthe detailed, specific, technical requirements for large-scale complexback-office software systems that satisfy customer goals, desired systemfunctionality, and adhere to regulatory (e.g., FRA) standards.
- Modelingthe requirements to improve clarity of system behavior and business processes(e.g., UML sequence and activity diagrams)
- Managestechnical requirements consistently across all back-office projects.Requirements are managed in a requirementsmanagement tool (Polarion) and candidate needs to ensure that the requirementsare properly traced to various technical artifacts (e.
g., design, test, RAMS).
- Supportsthe UX experts in the user interface design process and documentation.
- Supportsproject management in the change and scope management processes.
- Displaysa high level of critical thinking in bringing successful resolution tohigh-impact, complex, and / or multi-functional problems within the railback-office systems domain.
- Demonstratesand applies comprehensive knowledge of railroad operations to the successfuldefinition of complex back-office systems topics.
To thrivein this role, you have :
- Qualifiedapplicants will have 8+ years overall experience in software engineering oranother directly related field and successful demonstration of the key responsibilitiesand knowledge as presented above
- Qualifiedapplicants will also have at least 3 years of successful experience as aRequirements Engineer (or similar role)
- BSin Engineering or Computer Science - Electrical Engineering preferred
- AdvancedDegree preferred, Masters, PhD, or MBA
- Technicalknowledge of operations concepts in rail industry, rail products, dispatchsystems and other Backoffice rail systems
- Strongexperience in systems design of PTC products for North American Class-1 FreightRailroads
- Competencywith requirements management tools, preferably Polarion or DOORS
- Knowledgeablein standards, process, and methods for Requirements Engineering
- Experiencewith safety and security critical systems
- Customer-orientedmindset
- Effectiveinterpersonal and communication skills and ability to work with others inperson and off-site.
- Strongtechnical analysis skills
- Excellenttechnical writing skills
