The Ontario International Airport Authority Invites Applications for Director of Planning

The Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA) is seeking a Director of Planning to lead and innovate within the Planning Department.

This pivotal role oversees airport planning and environmental planning, ensuring compliance, sustainability, and the successful execution of our capital improvement program.

Reporting directly to the Chief Capital Development Officer, the Director of Planning will shape the future of ONT by developing and implementing strategic procedures, policies, and goals that align with the OIAA's ambitious initiatives.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate for the Director of Planning position is a seasoned professional with a proven track record in airport and environmental planning within the aviation industry.

They possess extensive knowledge of airport and comprehensive planning principles, public capital improvement programs, budgeting, and transportation planning.

They are well-versed in FAA guidance, CEQA, NEPA, and other environmental regulations. The candidate demonstrates strong expertise in strategic planning, infrastructure development, and environmental analysis for airports.

They have experience in grant administration, budget preparation, and personnel management, including hiring, training, and evaluating staff.

The ideal candidate excels in project management, resolving high-pressure situations, and collaborating in fast-paced environments.

They are adept at understanding and applying complex policies, staying current with emerging technologies, and navigating social, political, and economic trends impacting ONT.

With outstanding communication skills, the candidate effectively interacts with diverse stakeholders and consistently embodies the core values of OIAA.

Preferred Education and Experience

Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in the position.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Airport Planning, Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, or a related field is required.

A Master's degree in a related field is highly desirable.

  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible and recent professional experience in planning projects and programs, preferably at a FAA Part 139 Certified Airport, including a minimum of three (3) years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
  • Experience at a commercial airport and working with an appointed board or elected officials is highly desirable. Familiarity with and work experience in the Southern California region is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and database programs.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $144,200 - $195,700. A starting salary above the mid-point of $169,950 is achievable for the exceptional candidate and will be dependent upon experience.
