The SCHOOL OF CHEMISTRY & BIOCHEMISTRY of the GEORGIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY invites applications for its Unit Administrative Officer position.
The school has vibrant undergraduate and graduate programs, with over 400 undergraduate majors and 170 graduate students, and an extensive research portfolio.

Responsibilities
This position will investigate the emergence of protein folds as a problem of information demand, emphasizing the proteins associated with the emergence of Translation.
Duties will fulfill current commitments of the Center for Integration of the Origins of Life (iCOOL), written in its specific aims i) and ii) of Theme 2 : "We will derive measures for the minimum information needed to produce the simplest folds, using information present in extant folds."
- Assist in the supervision of Research Assistants attached to this topic and will participate in all iCOOL Center activities.
- Participate in Center meetings, planning sessions, and collaborations and provide and / or present project updates as requested.
- Acknowledge support in any publication of any material based on or developed under this project. Comply with the iCOOL Data Management Plan.
- Submit material for the annual progress report by the due date to be provided.
- Submit research highlights and other content for the iCOOL website as requested.
- Participate in general activities of the astrobiology community, including regional, national, and international meetings.
Required Qualifications
- A Master's degree in Chemistry, or related area, and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
- A Master's degree in Chemistry, or related area, and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
- A Doctoral degree in Chemistry, or related area, and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- A PhD in Physics and 20 years experience following completion of the PhD.
- The ability to teach and mentor a distinct student body.
- The ability to promote a welcoming educational / work environment.
- The ability to mentor and assist students interested in pursuing graduate education.
