Typical Day to Day (Tasks & Responsibilities) : The Research & Information Governance Analyst is responsible for providing both legal and non-legal research services to all practice and administrative areas of the firm, managing intranet content, and participating in library maintenance, accounting, and collection development.

Additionally, they engage in knowledge management activities, market research services, develop and conduct research training, and maintain relationships with vendors to ensure optimal service and pricing.

They are also tasked with ongoing professional development to stay abreast of legal technology advancements and undertake duties as requested by the Research & Information Governance Manager.

Requirements :

The Research & Information Governance Analyst will meet the following qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; advanced degree in library or information science or related field preferred.
  • At least one year of relevant professional experience in a legal environment preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of relevant databases and applications such as Westlaw, BloombergLaw, Lexis, CapIQ, VitalLaw, and others.
  • Experience with document management systems and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience reviewing electronic research products and licensing.
  • Familiarity with basic catalog principles.
  • Web design and content management experience desired.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that allow the ability to work with a variety of attorneys and administrative staff, and the professional presence and demeanor to represent the firm in its research and information governance functions to the attorneys, staff and administrative departments.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills, and must be able to convey ideas in a manner that is convincing to others.
  • Ability to work under deadlines.
  • Eagerness to constantly learn and pursue new skills and knowledge.
  • Strong work ethic and flexibility to meet the demands of the position; this includes working with attorneys and staff in the firm’s various offices on both the day and evening shifts.

This job requires the successful candidate to be available to meet crises outside of regular working hours or when out of the office.

Responsibilities :

The Research & Information Governance Analyst will have the following responsibilities :

  • Provide ready reference and in-depth research services, both legal and non-legal, to all practice and administrative areas of the firm
  • Contribute to and manage intranet content.
  • Participate in daily library updating, maintenance, accounting and cataloging and collection development.
  • Participate in knowledge management activities including development of internal work product and records management databases.
  • Actively market research services within the firm.
  • Develop and conduct research training.
  • Maintain relationships with appropriate vendors to maintain an understanding of the services and products available to the firm and to achieve optimum pricing.
  • Ongoing self-education and professional development to ensure that she or he is knowledgeable of the development of legal services technologies available to the law firm, and understands the state of the art legal technology necessary to maintain the firm’s competitive edge in this area.
  • Undertake other duties as requested by the firm’s Research & Information Governance Manager.
