Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is seeking a distinguished and forward-thinking Senior Strategic Advisor for Economic Development to collaborate directly with President Farnam Jahanian and the university's leadership team.

This fixed-term role will be pivotal in shaping the university's economic development strategy amidst the evolving landscape of higher education, technological disruption, and new federal funding opportunities.
As Senior Strategic Advisor for Economic Development, you will provide :
- Strategic Leadership : Partner with the President and senior leadership to envision and craft innovative economic development strategies that can position CMU as a key driver of regional and national economic growth, while aligning with the university's core research and education missions.
- Support CMU Innovation-Based Place-Making Proposals : Engage with CMU teams pursuing federal and / or state place-based innovation awards.
Support the development of the strategic focus and direction of proposals and tactics to improve both the likelihood of success and the ability of CMU to continue to influence national policy and thought leadership.
- Thought Leadership and White Paper Development : Lead the development of comprehensive white papers that showcase CMU's role as a national leader in economic development which address key trends in higher education, including the integration of research, innovation, and public-private partnerships, while identifying emerging opportunities for the university, including Hazelwood Green and other innovation strategies.
- Consultation and Expert Advisory : Serve as a principal advisor to the President on matters related to economic development.
Providing expert insights on how universities can re-envision their roles in society by connecting education and research with industry, government, and community partners.
Collaboration and Cross-Campus Integration : Engage with CMU's academic and research units, including the Business Engagement Center and the Block Center for Technology and Society, to ensure the economic development strategy reflects the university's diverse initiatives, as needed.

Qualifications :
Education : A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required, with an advanced degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, or a related field strongly preferred.
Experience : Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in economic development, with significant expertise in higher education, government, or industry settings.
A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

- This is a part-time, fixed-term position.
