Position Summary
The Manager, Associate Counsel Employment supports Royal Caribbean Group’s Legal department with respect to labor and employment matters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Manage employment-related legal demands, complaints, union grievances, governmental / regulatory inquiries, administrative proceedings, litigation, and arbitration;
- Draft responses to employment-related demand letters and administrative charges;
- Conduct fact investigations and document review, including electronic discovery;
- Manage external counsel (including budget and spend) representing the company in employment-related matters;
- Conduct legal research and provide legal updates to internal stakeholders;
- Provide legal guidance and risk assessment to internal stakeholders relating to escalated labor and employment law matters, including personnel decisions and workplace investigations;
- Draft, review, and revise employment-related agreements and policies;
- Provide employment law-related support in connection with commercial transactions;
- Manage employment law-related initiatives and projects;
- Foster a respectful, innovative, and creative workplace with the highest moral, ethical, and legal standards;
- Perform such other tasks and duties as may be assigned from time to time at the company’s discretion;
Travel as needed, sometimes on short notice.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills :
- Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school with excellent academic credentials;
- At least two (2) years of experience in the practice of law, including providing employment counseling to multijurisdictional clients regarding human resources compliance matters and conducting workplace investigations;
- One (1) to two (2) years of litigation experience preferred;
- Membership in the Florida Bar;
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws, including laws relating to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour, accommodations, and leaves of absence;
- Strong advocacy and negotiation skills;
- Ability to analyze legal risk and develop legal strategy;
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate legal concepts, risk, and guidance;
- Attention to detail and the ability to work independently;
- Strong team player with the ability to work cross-functionally in a complex organizational structure;
Self-starter who thinks proactively, performs well under pressure, and is able to assume significant responsibility in a fast-paced environment; and
Proficient in the following systems and platforms : Microsoft Office Suite systems including, but not limited to, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote;
Relativity; and Westlaw / Practical Law.
